Ja'mie King is misogyny rather than transphobia. It's the character that's important rather than the fact that Chris Lilley plays her. Whilst all of Lilley's characters are being mocked for who they are, Ja'mie King is the only one - in my limited experience of Lilley's work - where the character's gender is an intrinsic part of the mockery (tee hee hee aren't girls *shallow*?).
 
A rewatch of Ab Fab relatively recently had a few dodgy jokes. I seem to recall the Morocco episode being quite problematic.

I had a conversation once with the lady who advised them on trans issues while they were working on Hayley's storylines, and it was really illuminating hearing how the character had opened people's minds to issues affecting trans people and even helped to get the ball rolling on some legal rights in government.

Obviously hiring a CIS LADY would not go well now, although at least the actress is a bit of a QoL.

some disney movies (which I binged watched a couple of weeks ago) are a goldmine when it comes to things that haven't exactly aged well in 2020.
- The scarecrows in the Dumbo film, racist caricatures of black Americans
- Song Of The South, shocking at how it depicts slavery
- Native Americans portrayal in Peter Pan
- The Asian stereotypes in both Lady and the Tramp & The Aristocats :D
 
We may as well through Madonna's 'Ray of Light' era into the mix with the appropriation of hindu culture/imagery and geisha-wear

Where did you manage to watch Song of the South in 2020? I thought they cast that into the fires of MOUNT DOOM.
 
Song Of The South has been problematic for decades though, hasn't it? Probably pretty much since it was originally released. I don't think it has ever been released on DVD, or possibly even VHS.

I borrowed my parents' Amazon Fire TV Stick and it has a ridiculous amount of Disney stuff in it including their dark, very hard to find underrated stuff like Song of the south, The Black Cauldron, Fun & Fancy Free :disco:

I'm waiting patiently for the Disney+ remastered edition, which will be about five minutes long.
 
I had to look up Song of the South after this. As soon as I saw a picture of the child actor I just had a feeling he would have died young and sure enough he died at 31 penniless and alone in an abandoned house.

Is that the one that features “Zippadee Doo Dah”? Because the trailer for that was on every single fucking Disney VHS I owned in the 90s. And I hated it even then!
 
I was under the impression it hadn't been released on VHS or DVD but it appears that was just in the US.

They did a big theatrical re-release of the film in the 80s to promote Splash Mountain which is (somehow) based on the film, but they've been trying to pretend it doesn't exist ever since. It's not on Disney Plus despite all the other problematic early films making their way on there.
 
Just watching an episode from season five of Law & Order SVU, which was 2003/04. References to 'trannies' and 'he/shes' going unchallenged.
 
I fear genuine examples of grotesque comedy like The League of Gentlemen and Nighty Night wouldn’t stand a chance these days.

oh I WAS gonna say Friends as well but I didn't remember if Moopy loves that shit show just like everybody else (apparently) does.
Anyway, I remember transgenders/transvestites used to be subject of endless mockery but everybody passed it off as "oh it's just a stereotype". Also, if memoery serves right, Will & Grace used to be somewhat offensive to minorities despite the main storyline being about minorities struggling, but then again, weren't a lot of US based sitcoms from the mid-90's just that? A concoction of stereotype mockery?

For the series revival they completely changed their tone but every now and then Beverly Lesley pops up and it's like nothing has changed.
 
I always loved the scenes with Beverly Lesley, what were the problematic aspects? (Genuinely asking as can’t remember off the top of my head)
