This Wednesday's Work

Trying my best to stay zen this morning but it's hard!

DC to a colleague: The customer would like to do X, because Y takes more time and doesn't exactly suit their needs. Can we do that?
Colleague: But why don't they want to do Y, it only takes an hour :)
DC: :square:
 
I've gone from being on the verge of a meltdown a few weeks ago to now feeling like I don't have anything to do. I have plenty to do, and I've been getting plenty done, but without all the stress my brain hasn't really come to terms with the new pace of life. Is it weird that I think I miss it?
 
I deleted it months ago. Maybe I should have reinstalled it before my London weekend.

So far I've managed to avoid catching it altogether.
 
Moopy do most small, independent businesses pay sick pay, not just ssp?
 
Oh, Nova Twins are pretty good, eh? Found that out last night but needed my bed, hence the posting delay.
 
So a broken record update on my sunburn is that there doesn't appear to be any swelling left, but my scalp is peeling so bad I could sell it all off as fish food.

SSP is compulsory the rest is discretionary. I've always paid people in full if they are off sick but then I don't have people working shifts. If you can afford it, pay it. A happy workforce is a productive workforce, and nothing makes people unhappier than the prospect of earning fuck all.

We do pay it, when we opened we agreed to keep staff happy we would pay 2 weeks full pay a year.

We now have a temp person who has been here 2 months and she's about to have an op and have time off, but it's going to hit as just as peak season starts, meaning we will be paying her sick and others to cover which is frustrating. But it can't be helped.

We only get SSP (which you can only get after 7 days or whatever). When I mention it to people they're horrified, never heard anything like it. I agree with Ron about paying it if you can afford it. Honestly the goodwill and loyalty you get is worth it

It's disgusting that an organisation such as yours pays the bare minimum.

Isn't SSP after 3 days?
We are paying 2 weeks full pay for sickness. It's crippling us but if we can keep the staff hopefully it's worth it.

I was talking to another local business and they were saying they only do SSP. And 20 days holiday which includes bank holidays. They close bank holidays meaning staff have to use their annual leave, so they actually only get 12 days. Which I'm pretty sure is illegal?
 
Employers are allowed to include bank holidays as part of annual leave entitlement.
