Thoughts on Oasis

The working man splashes out on Oasis and cocaine.

I don't think we should be surprised by this

We all knew from the outset the Gallaghers LOATHE the idea of touring as Oasis. If ever there was a tour that was only about the money, it was this one.

I remember when REM were accused of gouging their fans by charging $40-50 for stadium shows in the US. Oh, how things have changed...

I remember a friend seeing U2 for £40 and I’d never seen a ticket above £30 before other than reports on Barbra Streisand’s shows. Thought they were MAD :D

From what I understand it works exactly the same way as the travel industry - as less airline tickets or hotel rooms become available, the price goes up.
So does that mean the cheap tickets never actually exist in the first place?

Because ticketmaster know the demand by who is online, and unlike flights or hotels in most circumstances, that demand is all there at the very start.

I've genuinely not been aware of it for concerts before, although it's been a long time since I booked a stadium or arena gig.
They used to be as branded as “official platinum tickets” (giving an air of some kind of premium offering but they were just bog standard tickets dynamically priced). Beyoncé and Taylor definitely had them. At least this way it’s slightly more transparent (but still shit).

SeeTikcets and GigsandTours were both selling tickets too. Be interesting to see if any of them were dynamically priced or if it’s a ticketmaster offering.

And I don’t see how they can cancel tickets sold on viagogo. If I put one on there they have no idea who I am, or what ticket I have. It’ll scare some for sure but acts have been saying the same old lines for years regarding reselling.

Whilst I agree all those involved are evil greedy sods

I also have zero sympathy / have been giggling at some of the reactions

The BBC quoting Rachel from Devon who feels "ripped off" after paying £495. "It's just greed... I'll be paying it off on the credit card"

Such a shame there wouldn't have been an option to just CLOSE THE BROWSER before pressing pay and reading a nice book instead. Would ladening yourself with debt to pay for luxury items you can't afford not also be a form of "greed"?

I read an article earlier about how a lot of the anti oasis sentiment is classist, and it really is

The whole system is designed to panic you into buying though.
Yes, I get the point, but when you've been sitting there for hours on various wait screens, or having been thrown out, they KNOW that people will pay more than they intended.

Sorry, but still no sympathy. People have entered that system voluntarily.

If people are really "panicking" over a gig, people need to take a look at themselves.
I've got no sympathy either. These people are enabling the ticket touts - Without them, they wouldn't be able to exist.

Some of it is, yes. Some of it is good old fashioned jealousy too. There are few green-eyed monsters quite like the one that consumes privileged kids who don't "make it".

From what I’ve read it kind of breaks down to :

Tickets have a base price to begin with. As certain price ranges start selling, the price per ticket starts adjusting by percentages. So if you get in first you should be able to nab tickets at the face value…if you are #1000 in the que you are going to pay a significant amount more if you are able to snag the tickets at all.

I got Springsteen tickets for his last tour and paid quite a bit more than face value for them. I was fine with that because my Mom has been a fan of his since the beginning and I really wanted to finally get her to see him. I also know I am part of the problem because I bought into the dynamic pricing scheme.

Was it this article by any chance? I'm very much DONE with the coverage of this reunion, but I appreciated this piece when it came out just in terms of checking my own biases (which I've openly displayed in this thread). Typical working-class wanker who easily passes as bourgeois (despite clinging onto low-income life :disco: ) and sneers at those that don't, fo shame. All I'd say in hindsight is that:

One thing Oasis never did is sneer at their fans, or (wealth aside), pretend to be any different from them.

I'm not sure if that really holds so true anymore giving the whole 'dynamic' pricing thing and their complicity! I completely forgot about the pre-sale, but I had a couple of friends in the queue for hours (on behalf of a few of us), both of whom eventually got offered 355 GBP (!!!) tix and rightly thought better of it.

GUATEMALA it shall be!

ETA: Congrats on getting your tickets, btw! Hope it's everything you want it to be! I would say get coked up in a wife beater but that's just me.

It was.

I did wonder just how complicit Liam and Noel would have been in the dynamic pricing. Can't imagine Liam having the time to sit through that meeting, Noel probably insisted on it.

Was it possible to buy tickets from anyone other than Ticketmaster? Genuine question, i don't know the answer.

In the travel industry there is competition. You can get different hotels, you can travel with different airlines or take different forms of travel.

If it was only Ticketmaster selling the tickets, then it's a monopoly doing price gouging. And that shit needs to be regulated against.

Yeah seetickets and gigs and tours, but i had both open from before 9am and didnt get past a holding page.

dynamic pricing is extremely common for most big name tours in the US but fortunately it hasn't made it to the UK so much. what actually happened with the prices? I know standing tickets were announced as being 150 at first, how much did that go up?

I think it went up to nearly £400. I didn’t see any other prices in between being cited.

Two more Wembley dates announced, 27th and 28th September, to be sold through a 'staggered invitation-only ballot'. My brother and stepdad will be trying for tickets again.

They are also denying all knowledge of dynamic pricing, of course.

As above, can you imagine Liam sitting through a strategic meeting with Ticketmaster to discuss the thresholds at which surge pricing would apply and what percentage increases would be deemed acceptable to customers based on qualitative research? He just turns up and sings songs.

Noel on the otherhand is a tory cunt, he probably insisted on it.

I'm sure the one thing he would have hung around a meeting for would be to make sure Noel didn't make more. He's complicit.

I’m slightly obsessed with him. He’s the ultimate GAY POP GIRLIE
