I think I'm only seeing who I follow on Instagram which is fairly tolerable for the first hour.

Nope, so I'm not bothering until they add it (it's coming #soon apparently).

From the "do you want to follow these people" prompt when I signed up it looks like they've given every Instagram user a threads account whether they wanted it or not; I think it's just up to the user to activate it.
