Heavily editing this week/end because I've set a deadline to start on art direction and I'm really enjoying it, even though its hard.

I've trained a very clever AI tool to help me. I don't use it to write/edit but make suggestions, and its keeping me really focused on the important changes. Its also showing me who gets us and who hasn't read the brief. (Yanks)

I've had no work this week, but that's kind of OK. My eight days of work is enough to last us until the end of the month.

There's a MUTINY AMONGST THE WORKERS at my place because I had company photography done before Christmas and have asked everyone to update their signatures/ online presence etc. with lovely new photos which APPARENTLY one person doesn't like. Well that ONE PERSON shouldn't have sat SCOWL FACED throughout the whole exercise, moaning that they HATE having their photo taken and maybe they'd have MORE useable photos rather than the LITERALLY ONE they have right now.

Honestly, the amount of UTTERLY TRIVIAL SHITE I have to deal with is beyond me...

If you can get over the occasional mental anguish of inconsistency getting paid a good day rate really does make life more enjoyable. I couldn't imagine ever doing 5 days a week 9-5 again, and I couldn't have run the business I have without doing a bit of consultancy to keep me afloat.

The wage I get is great, but it IS inconsistent work. When I work I'm well off, but if there's nothing I'm dirt poor. Obvious to say but it's really highlighted with my job.

Obviously I have no issue with down time. If I could work 10 days a month on my wage we'd have enough to live. But that doesn't always happen.

Yeah the down time can be a killer, can't you side hustle in something adjacent? Like out of school tutoring?

Fuck tutoring. It's hard to get into and the amount of work involved outweighs the award. Besides no-one wants tuition in humanities. It's mostly English, Maths, languages and Science (plus music and sport). I'm not qualified for any of those. No parent is going to realistically going to pay for their kid to do more HISTORY.

I don't mind down time. I see friends and family, the house looks great, I have more energy to cook good food and I read more.

I do desperately need work in the summer holidays though. I get invigilation pay over the summer but it doesn't touch the sides. I'd like to do GCSE marking but I'm not qualified enough.

Who is a good moopy Londoner to ask about underground tickets for teenagers? I'm checking the tfl website but finding it a little confusing. I want to say @Ellie?

I think you need those Zip Photocards now, but that involves applying for them (and it gives under 16s free bus travel too), so is mostly only useful for residents and frequent travellers.

There’s PAYG Contactless/Oyster which is the easiest way to do anything, but I think that only charges adult prices.

If it’s just a day/weekend visit, unfortunately the old paper ticket at a machine is the way to go.

I haven’t paid for a tube journey myself since 2009, so I’m pretty useless.

Just had a decent constitutional - couple of hours. Bit chilly mind you.

Thanks - it's two 17 year olds I'm coming with. I did see the Zip thing, but assumed the same in terms of it not being worth applying for it when they will be 18 before the end of the year and unlikely to use them again.

The paper ticket thing was confusing me, in terms of how much it would charge (and you pay a lot more for cash, rather than contactless)?

Then there's the time you have to spend queuing up for tickets as well, which I hate and haven't done for years. I think it's likely that we'll only make two zone 1 journeys anyway (to and from Paddington), unless the weather is horrid, at least.

I was thinking I'd just give them both one of my cards to tap in and out with is probably the easiest thing. Although it will charge adult fares, I think they will end up paying that without one of those Zip cards. And means I won't need to waste time in queues for ticket machines.

That’s probably the best thing to do to be honest. I think the savings for a single Contactless adult fare is still pretty significant to a paper ticket anyway. I don’t think you can use one card for both people though so if you have more than one, just use that, or get a PAYG Oyster.

Brave Ellie has staff concession that lets me through
Has yours ever given up the ghost? Mine stopped reading on the gates a couple of weeks ago, and it took a week and a half for a replacement to show up

Didn't even get the opportunity to have my mugshot on the photocard portion updated :(

I lost it once about 8 years ago and paid a tenner to get it replaced. Only took a few days to come through but had to PAY for travel in that time :bad:
