Thursday gets confused about time differences

See, 5 is my natural wake up time. No matter when I go to bed I wake up at 5. It’s a blessing in summer but feels like a curse right now when I can’t go to the gym so just generally mill aimlessly about or stay in bed on my phone til there’s actually anything to do.

Good morning ❄️
I’ve too become an old man that wakes up naturally at around 5 am, although many nights I wake up at 3-4 am and can’t fall back asleep. :bruised:

Good morning 🌻 Thursday in this case being a euphemism for my mum, who knocked on my door just after 5 this morning asking whether I should get up now so I'm not late for work. Her phone was still showing the time in Turkey for some reason
Did she at least bring you a cup of tea?

I’d have no issue with that in a Swedish summer where it’s light at that time!

Why was she up so early?!

Ok so sitting and doing online lessons all day really pisses off my lower back, this week moreso because I did the same on Tuesday for once.

Now DO I go to the gym with this back pain and hope it’ll make things better, or avoid it because it’s a bad idea?
I could always just take a walk, exercise fans

Also I find myself bothered by this Pringles vending machine.
You don’t just eat ‘em

… yeah? What else do you do with them?!
It just has that phrase on it several times, I don’t get it… if it was “You don’t just eat ONE” I’d get it

I'm awake at THIS time on a day off and am resenting every moment.

I'll probably get back off to sleep in about half an hour, but for now I've got to endure the sound of Mr L making an inordinate amount of noise doing his ablutions while listening to something shit on BBC Sounds.

My first alarm goes off at 5.25 when I start work at 8; I need to be in a non-sleeping phase to be up before it. I was very sleepy this morning, even my last alarm (6.10) was a struggle.

Fuck me it is BALTIC today. I’ve only two days left then annual leave for a week and I’m off to BUDAPEST! Anyone been? Any recommendations of things to do?

I wake at around 6am most mornings. This morning I've already tested Heathcliffs glucose levels and injected him then had a 30 minute snooze.

It's finally sunny here today and I'm stuck inside all day with heathcliff

Oh I ADORE Budapest! But it's been a few years now since I've been.

Make sure you go to the Szcenyi (sp.?) outdoor heated baths, eat in the Great Market Hall, go out in the Jewish bit, which is full of lots of funky nightclubs and bars and do a lot of milling about! It's generally very cheap, the food is great (if you eat meat, admittedly)...

Sam Smith keeps popping up on my Tiktok singing Unholy. I like the song, but everything he does makes me cringe.

Google "ruin bar" and get yourself to some of them. Very much a tourist trap, but fun nevertheless.

Other typical tourist things are to get yourself up the old town/castle area for the view of the city, walk around Margaret island and any one of the thermal baths (the one Sheena mentioned is the largest, but it is mostly outdoors which is nice).

The pinball museum is fun, if you're into that kind of thing.

Fantastic thank you!

Definitely going to try a ruin bar and the baths sounds great too. Cheers!

@Music, The Gellért Baths are indoor baths in a beautiful Art Nouveau hotel in Budapest. I probably preferred them to the Széchenyi outdoor ones if I'm honest (more male flesh on display, if nothing else) - but I'd say do them both if you have time.

One thing I remember about Budapest is having fantastic food in the funkiest little cafes/bars, and being (relatively) disappointed when we paid more in restaurants.

What a busy evening, I did ASFM, wrote the subtitles for the next YouTube video, and used hair removal cream on my arms and legs. I don’t know which one was the biggest chore

So minimum wage is going up next April to £10.50 an hour. This is going to have a massive impact on small businesses, ours included. At the moment we pay over minimum wage, but not by loads.

This, along with crazy high utility bills and sky high ingredients costs, we're going to be lucky if we're still open this time next year.

Mandy and I are seriously talking about closing the shop in a year if things continue as they are :(

You had me at male flesh! Thanks

Oh it's arses everywhere in there.

And if you like being pulled about and pounded by big, burly men, treat yourself to a massage. I've just checked their website and even their most expensive massage is about £55 for an hour, and some cheaper. It looks like a day ticket to the spa is about £15 which is a lot more than when I went (in about 2005 and again about a decade later), but still great value. I'd allow half a day for it.

Moopy advice please.

A couple came into the shop this morning and bought a chocolate box of fudge and asked fora Christmas sticker. We don't sell a huge amount of chocolate boxes so we remember when we do.

They then asked for a bag and receipt. Reciept was put in the bag and handed to them.

They then called up this afternoon and said they can't find the fudge or the bag so they've obviously left it in the shop. They haven't. We would see a bag of fudge with a box we don't sell much.

Our staff member said it's not in the shop, have you retraced your steps.

They're saying they don't need to, they know they left it in the shop and they want a free box!

Mandy and I are refusing at the moment. Fudge isn't cheap, we can't afford to give stuff away, but at the same time we don't want bad feedback.

What would you do?

This is maybe a bit too much but assuming you have CCTV check the footage? And confirm with them they left the shop with it?

I would think that would shut them up but they sound like they’re just wanting to get something for free! Would you take the hit with one bad review if they did?

I mean once the transaction was completed, that's your responsibility over, isn't it? I guess it's POSSIBLE that they left it in the shop after they paid for it, and then someone else pinched it, but even so, that's on them and not your responsibility to replace it.

I guess you either such up the cost and replace it as a gesture of goodwill, or stand your ground and refuse - and then like Music says, potentially take the hit.

If you've got a good reputation generally I think I'd take the hit. If I saw a customer review moaning about what has happened, followed by a reply from the business explaining what happened, I wouldn't think poorly of the business for it.

We don't have CCTV :(

But the shop has literally seen about 5 people today so the staff know what's been sold and would absolutely know if a bag was left in the shop.

I'm tempted to take the bad review, I can always respond.

Thank you. Yeah that's what we're thinking. We can afford a bad review for something so weird. We've done a lot of goodwill gestures in the past, like when postal orders go missing and we send out more for free, but this just seems a bit too weird.
