Thursday: It’s a beast of a bar

My local pub charged me £333.30 for a pint on Monday and I hadn’t noticed til the landlord messaged me today saying “er, did you happen to buy a pint of Strongbow at 4:30ish on Monday and can you check your bank statement, please?”. Quite pleased I drink in a place that knows me (and is honest!)

:D how lucky! A similar thing happened to me on holiday once when I ordered a cappuccino at the pool and they'd run 88 of them through the till.

HOW?! :D

Thing is, the contactless didn’t work and I just said “oh it must be cause I haven’t entered my pin for a while. LITERALLY CLUELESS :D

£3.30 a pint and the barmaid typed two extra threes somehow. She is rather old, to be fair, and they’ve only just started taking cards just before lockdown, so y’know...

Christ, have you moved to Jaywick?

My local is a proper old man’s pub. They had a total ban on using mobile phones in the pub until about 5 years ago!

I could understand extra 0s but extra 3s!!!

We only have 4 pubs. 2 I would not step foot in again as the men use the female toilets, and they absolutely STINK. I also actually quite like an old mans pub, but the hygiene level needs to be at least HALF DECENT.

I paid £8.50 for two tuna steaks earlier.

Mind you, I bet that wouldn't get you a goldfish gill in London

I’m guessing the OLD LOVE started, got interrupted and started again.

Either that or it was an elaborate way of being ON THE ROB but all things considered, I somehow doubt that.

M&S meal deal for dinner. The white zinfandel I got with it is probably the best I've had in a while

Don’t want to sound like one of the metropolitan elite, but I genuinely don’t understand how two tuna streaks could be cheaper than £8.50?!?

I thought the fishmonger said £6.50 at first and thought it was pushing it. It was only when I looked at the receipt later I realised.

You can get two for £5.50 in M&S, so I'm sure you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

I mean obviously £0.85 is too cheap and £85.00 is too much, where was the mistake?!?

In fairness, they were two lovely fat fuck off steaks.

I made a sauce from anchovies, lemon, rosemary, garlic and olive oil bashed about in a mortar and pestle and it was fucking delicious.

The charges at my local fishmonger vary ridiculously to the point I’m not sure they have a clue. Sometimes fuck all seems to cost £45 and other times I’m astonished how cheap it is. Only last week, I ended up with two tuna steaks, two massive bits of swordfish, ten giant proper king prawn langoustiney things, two large smoked salmon steaks and a whole lobster for £23.

Admittedly the girl who served me asked me to point out “which is the salmon”, so I’m not convinced it was entirely ABOVE BOARD...

And they’ll always try to con you by grabbing a non fish item. “Try this olive oil”- OOH that looks nice! As it should at £17.50 a bottle.

It's felt busy today on Moopy. Are we sliding back into lockdown Moopy?

Yeah. Don't get the appeal at all. Great for the posts though, so I'm not complaining.

Oh it's almost like the real thing. Like Eurovision, it's full of petty squabbles and the musical quality is VARIABLE at best. :disco:

I'd enter. I'd just have no interest in listening to the other songs.

Is it just up here or has there been a shift in the weather the last couple of days? It has started to get really quite CHILLY at night.

Mini heatwave next week apparently. At least around these parts.
