Thursday wonders what a police and crime commissioner even is

I’ve only seen election ads for the Tory PCC here and I think he’s the incumbent so I’ll be off out later to vote for whoever is likely to defeat him.

Mum has ANNOUNCED she’s coming to London at the end of the month and is staying at my flat.

Looking forward to a nice long bank holiday weekend!!

Quite tired. Tho at least I managed to get some 6h of sleep on my flight back. More than I expected.

I woke up believing it was Friday but it’s not so now I’m in a mood :oi:

Received an email snot-o-gram from a colleague complaining that they were still waiting since Monday for something they'd dropped off and said "when you get a minute..." with no indication of urgency

Excuse me if I take "when you get a minute" literally

I'd been accosted over it yesterday while trying to leave for my lunch, which annoyed me but I was actually going to do it yesterday afternoon regardless - but then t'boss suddenly informed me that a big fuck off TV had been delivered and needed setting up immediately for MD's video conference next morning (and then I was kinda busy this morning) so yeah tough titties

I sent the kind of email back that equates to a very polite and professional "fuck off"
(We're good now)
Basically said, well you did say "when you get a minute", and that I have a lot to do and a lot of other people in the queue who also want their things doing asap and contrary to popular opinion IT doesn't actually sit here doing nothing and ignoring everyone.

Honestly all it takes is to come over (20 steps or so) and say something like "hey sorry we could really use that thing for an urgent job because {some good reason}, sorry it's a bit short notice but would you be okay to prioritise it for us?" and you'd get a smile and a "sure no problem" and it gets done. It's all in how you ask. A snotty "why isn't it done we've waited for days" email ain't it.

Part of it I think it a misconception (thanks to the "50p an item" label-slapping crowd) that a "PAT test" is just a 2 minute job. Not when you do the inspection and testing properly and not when there's paperwork. And certainly not when the appliance has something loose rattling inside it. I'm not signing that shit off as safe and putting someone's life and my freedom on the line until I've pulled it apart and found out what's rattling. (In the end just a bit of loose plastic off something unimportant but still) then put it safely back together and re-tested.
