Thursday's off to Matlock

Last night I suspected that Mr F was messaging spawn to get me a birthday present from him. I questioned him then stated that I didn't understand why he felt the need to w*nk away money on something that I didn't want just because it was my birthday. He said that if I won't tell him what I want what's he supposed to do? so I said just don't get me anything, there's nothing I want and I'll wait until I do then get it then. If I'd left it there I think everything would have been OK, but I didn't.

I went on to say that he'd asked what I wanted and I'd said nothing so why can't he leave it at that. In the past when I've told him what I wanted he either got the wrong thing eg. the binoculars I wanted for stargazing - gave him the precise manufacturer, model number and magnifications and he bought a cheaper version with inferior specs that were no use whatsoever so they've been used once when my boss borrowed them for a horseracing day she went on, or the time that he flat-out refused to buy it (neon pink wellybobs are not an acceptable birthday present apparently, even if the person whose birthday it is has requested them). It isn't like I ever expect anything decent from him that required a bit of thought, like that time in 2011 I wrote to all of the Manchester United team eight months before his 40th (we were poorer then) and sent them each a photo to sign, individually, with a return SAE then got a large frame and arranged them all into a massive picture of signatures for his United wall. He's never really put in any effort in the past so I really don't expect anything from him and I'm not bothered. He's been like that all our lives together and I don't care.

He got a bit upset about that, reading it back now I can understand why. Maybe I should have engaged brain before putting gob into gear and phrased it a bit nicer. Now he thinks that he's the reason that I still hate my birthday even though he knows it all started when I was little, many years before I met him.

Now I feel bad that he feels bad because I stupidly told him the truth. :D

It sounds like there was stuff that needed to be said Floppet, even if you regret the way it ended up coming out. Be careful of apologising or you'll only perpetuate it.

In other news, I've just whipped up a MARROW CURRY, which was less exciting than it sounds and yes, I know how unexciting it already is.

Mr L is fucking useless at presents as well. Don't get me wrong, he's wonderfully generous - just completely lacking in imagination and dropping hints doesn't work in the slightest.

That reminds me of the first time i went to a lesbian dinner party. We had stuffed marrow.

In fact I just realised I haven't had a birthday present yet. My birthday was in April. I've got his Christmas present already.

Mr Sheena tries to be too good at presents and get me surprises- which inevitably ends up with me getting something I've randomly picked up in a shop and gone "ooh, this is fancy" six months previously.

But mostly he goes "on list", so it's ok.

If more people did this, the world would be a much less interesting (though likely more peaceful) place.

I am AWFUL at presents, to the point where I have used and followed through on the threat. "If you do not tell me what you want, I will get you nothing".

I can be QUITE INSPIRED at gift buying. I bought my mate a massive fossil recently, which I was pretty content with.

I'm pretty rotten at presents. It's partly because I'm not great at shopping - my limited range of personal interests means that I'm very rarely somewhere and think "oh, that would be nice for xxxx", unless they happen to be interested in cut-proce Frank Zappa CDs or need some new guitar leads.

Mandy and I used to be quite creative with birthday presents. Now it's all practical gifts. She's bought me a new pair of walking shoes this year :disco:

I fucking LOVE buying gifts*. I spend too much money at Christmas and the joy at seeing someone really happy is well worth every penny. GOD I LOVE CHRISTMAS.

*- Except for kids, especially in my family, as they appear to have ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING THEY COULD EVER NEED.

This is so me.

K usually buys me really random stuff that I haven't even thought of for my birthday/Christmas. For my birthday he got me a boxed set of pin badges because I have pin badges on my handbag.

If my partner handed me a pair of them he would be KNOCKED OUT with them.
I'm an outdoorsy person tho. I'd much rather be out camping, or hiking in the woods and mountains than out walking round high st shops or sat in a posh bar.

At least he knows now. And the binoculars you get next year will be shit hot.

We got given a £50 John Lewis voucher at work this week. I've decided to spend mine on a bad but can't choose between a Radley one and a Fiorelli one. What's a better make?

I've had both makes, they're both alright and last a reasonable amount of time. Get both.
