Not sure exactly where to put this - she's hardly Music for Gayers, and not sure it belongs in Divas either.

The reissues came through today (along with Kim Wilde's Close, so my musical week is going to be a ridiculous 80s fest :D)

She doesn't seem to hold Live Your Life Be Free or A Woman & A Man in very high regard at all. :( She describes the latter as "A total disaster", though she may be referring more to her personal problems at the time.

She hates 'Do You Feel Like I Feel' :D :(

I watched the 2 Mark Goodier interviews for Heaven & Runaway today on Youtube but they didn't have them for Live Your Life or Real.

As much as I love her, I've never warmed to her especially.

She does come off a little aloof.

The Real interview is a lot longer than the others (they blatantly just did one long chat and chopped it in four) and incorporates a lot of discussion of her career after that album. She's a little bit too enthusiastic about her drug-taking days in places. :D

She's got some fabulous tunes but I've never really gone FANATIC on her. There just doesn't seem to be a substantial amount of variety as far as her catalog is concerned. But she did what she did really exceptionally well so I can't be too critical.

I'm ASTONISHED that ANYONE could think the half baked "I Get Weak" is her finest tune, Pop :D
 
"World Without You" is fantastic just for that pre-chorus bridge!
 
I just love the almost VACANT UNABASHED JOY of "I Get Weak". I realize it has few other merits but sometimes I'm just looking for such a song.
 
I love I Get Weak. She's had far better, but it's a great slice of 80s MOR and as with a lot of her material her voice really lifts it. I love her throaty ad-libs.
 
I don't dislike it, PLEASE DON'T GET ME WRONG, loves, but it's not up there with some of her canon- where's the RIDICULOUS 80s POP HOOK FOR STARTERS!?
 
One of the interesting things she said on the Heaven interview was when she said she'd recently been to visit Diane Warren in her new offices. Could there be an I Get Weak pt 2 on the cards?

It's neither's finest moment but it is a lovely song. The video is lovely too.

On the advice of Jonfessions I have ordered Lips Unsealed and it's waiting to be collected from a Co-op store. I shall have a good read tomorrow.
 
Grrr...how come EVERYONE has got all their Belinda DVDs and I don't. I've only got the latter two (came yesterday) and I want to watch them in order :evil:

I got my copy of Lips Unsealed today and it's most interesting although endears me to her even less. It pretty much follows a pattern of:

1. release album, which doesn't do as well as hoped, take drugs
2. promote album across the world, find local drug dealers, take drugs
3. get criticised for lack of enthusiasm when performing live, take drugs
4. get found out by husband, promise never to take drugs, take drugs

Repeat 5 times, except on cycle 4 take drugs when you think your husband is fucking fellow redhead, HRH Fergie. And she starts stalking Tracey Thorn and Boy George watches as her Belinda's flat burns down.

Mad About You and some of the Belinda songs were meant to be on the Go-Go's 4th album, but Jane had left, and it was Charlotte & Belinda vs Gina and Kathy, so Charlotte and Belinda did a runner and made the Belinda album. Miles Copeland at IRS wanted a rockier album but she was only tied to a one albim deal with them so after selling half a million copies Belinda went to MCA where she started to work with Rick Nowels at Stevie Nicks' suggestion. Whether Miles Copeland held a grudge, he turns up in the South of France in 1995 when Belinda signs with Chrysalis for A Woman & A Man and insists Rick doesn't produce the album even though he's written half the songs for it. It was Miles Copeland who described Falling Into You as shit. Belinda is diplomatic about not liking Per Gessle's contributions.

She talks about appearing on The Big Breakfast after an all night coke binge, showing up at the studio sweating and unable to speak. This is from that time:
