Back at work after a week+ off and I'm feeling quite perky about it.

My shop is like a goldfish bowl full of windows. It's horrible once it's dark because everyone can see me and I can't see anyone outsideI'm already sick to the back teeth of leaving work in the dark, and we still have a good four months of it to look forward to![]()

I prefer a brazen one.Love a sly strum on a Tuesday morning.
I know - and you were such a picture of composure and contentment before! It’s quite remarkable how the clocks going back has filled me with such an impending SENSE OF DOOM!
Seriously couldn't recommend it enough. It's about now, that all my coping mechanisms start failing and there's an impending mental health collapse on the horizon.
But, working 3/4 days a week is really helping me not burn out and have time to recuperate.
#delicate
This is me, I definitely need days where I just potter about a bit - if at least one day of a weekend isn't like this I start feeling a bit trapped, I've realised.Seriously couldn't recommend it enough.
I've found that one of my days off it's important for me to do nothing. I don't mean necessarily nothing at all other than watch TV or read (although that does happen sometimes), but not have anything major planned. A full diary doesn't work for me, even if it's individual things I normally enjoy. I need breathing space.
Buy one of those suicide lamps to try? Who was talking about them the other day? @Sheena ?
Absolutely this! I always make sure I have one day a week with no plans, and usually I spend the day in my pyjamas watching crap on TV. It's one of my most favourite days.Seriously couldn't recommend it enough.

Yes, pottering is the exact word. Just doing little, largely pleasurable things to occupy yourself that don't cause you to think too much. And nothing too exciting, even in a good way. The whole point for me is not to stimulate my nervous system too much. This is me, I definitely need days where I just potter about a bit - if at least one day of a weekend isn't like this I start feeling a bit trapped, I've realised.
One surgery I work at only has part time staff. Nobody works more than 30 hours a week, from GPs down to receptionists (sorry, 'care navigators'), and everyone in between - both clinical and admin staff. If you CAN afford it, I'd say do it. It's been the talk of progressive folk for years, but honestly dishes shine longer with time off.
Nothing beats a day or two a week of just FANNYING AROUND.

I was having this conversation with my older brother the other day. He's moving back to the island and currently has a very stressful job in London, he wants to move here and set up his own small business and enjoy life more. The way I work since starting my own business has really made me question what I want from life. I'm currently (mostly) doing 3-4 hour days, with the odd bit of work in the evening/ weekends, usually with a day completely away from my desk and so far I've made about enough to equal my MD salary at my last job.
The next thing is to decide whether to go for world domination or just happily potter along at this level and have a much better quality of life. I still haven't quite decided that yet...
Oh I had a right face on yesterdayIt’s quite remarkable how the clocks going back has filled me with such an impending SENSE OF DOOM!

But then we got talking about the shop and he was coming up with all these grand ideas to grow our business, all of which would involve a huge amount of effort.
Finally he understood when I said I don't want that, I enjoy working part time and have enough money to be happy. Not work crazy hours for more money.
Everyone is different tho. Some people thrive on working loads.

Wiki tells me it’s not MXE. Moxy is 5-MeO-MiPT.MXE? I fucking hate it.
Having recently gone tits out for world domination and nearly killed myself in the process I get what you are saying. Stripping everything back and giving myself some breathing space the last few months has been great. I'm trying really hard to work smart not hard now #linkedinmotivation
Whoever had this winter time idea first and passed it on to everyone else should rot in hell for eternity.I'm already sick to the back teeth of leaving work in the dark, and we still have a good four months of it to look forward to![]()
