My next door neighbours are buying their council house and I'm really pleased about it (the other half of my semi-detatched). Because the kids have both grown up and left home I was worried that we might get some awful noisy neighbours if they moved out so it's brilliant news to me.

Are you sure they aren't just buying it cheap (presumably if they have been there a while) to sell it on?

I reckon they've been there about 10 years. If you buy a council house I think that if you try to sell it within 5 years you have to pay a percentage of your discount back and offer it to the council before it can go on the open market and within 10 years you just have to give the council first refusal before putting it on the market.
