EastEnders above 3m for the first time since the end of June - the week before Wimbledon. So is that the first time it has returned to its regular schedule?
 
Van Der Valk is such an odd - and deeply unappealing - looking show. Those 3.845million people will all be weirdoes

In other news: there's been a Sport Relief?! They kept that quiet.

Oh I've googled and it was seemingly just "Sport Relief All Star Games: Birmingham 2022" rather than a full blown telethon, which they've apparently now abandoned in favour of doing a Comic Relief one every year.

Yes it was. There isn’t actually all that much between Eastenders and Corrie and Emmerdale now. 1-1.5 million.
 
I am catching up on the last season of Shetland at the moment that I somehow missed as I started the new season and it seemed to follow on from the last one. Nice to see it on top.

A few weeks back I did a comparison of viewing figures for the soaps against three years ago. That was possibly unfair to EastEnders, if it was being messed around by sport and being on iPlayer, so I'll do it again now.

Coronation Street: down 1.435m (23.4%)
Emmerdale: down 1.466m (25.7%)
EastEnders: down 1.733m (36.1%)

So the difference between the three soaps is actually getting WORSE for EastEnders.
 
I have to say I am a SUCKER for both Celebrity Masterchef and Ambulance.
 
The BBC controller Charlotte Moore stated at the Edinburgh TV Festival last week EastEnders "is an important title for us, the most popular, young audience title we have on iPlayer, in terms of the volume of people it brings in every week. And there are big plans to evolve EastEnders creatively."

I've seen people speculating that this may mean the intention may be to put it all on iPlayer each week in advance, or possibly even move it to BBC3.

I know the ratings are low but it isn't often something on Sky makes the top 20, and HotD isn't even available on Virgin TV is it, being on Sky Atlantic?

I think it was all dumped on iPlayer at the same time - so at least part of the drop will be due to people watching there ahead of broadcast.

I think top ten is decent enough for The Voice, even if just over 4m doesn't sound impressive.

Slightly disappointing figures for The Suspect and The Capture though, I'd have thought. Unfortunately the Barb website doesn't give the 28 day figures any more, although I suspect the BBC will tweet about The Capture if they think it does well.
 
I haven’t watched either. I remember a little about the first season of The Capture, and did quite enjoy it.
 
That is quite low for The Capture. I don't think it was helped by the long gap between series and then it comprehensively lost out to crooning DI Hastings on the other side.

I've just watched the last episode and it is really good. Still reassuringly just a bit ridiculous but quite a ride and a satisfying conclusion. It was obviously a while ago but I think this run was better than the first.

I haven’t watched any of the second season yet but have them all recorded. Thank you Fetch. I shall tune in later on this week.
 
We've watched two parts of The Capture so far and I'm loving it.

I do wonder if a lot of shows may get a higher bump than usual from iPlayer this week, as people get sick of the news and solemnity and turn to it. And I suspect that's more likely to favour drama series.
 
Unfortunately the BBC hasn't declared all platform viewing for September 5 -11, so I can't do a full chart yet, unless I also exclude that data for ITV etc. Hopefully it will become available later this week.

Considering the news events of that week though, the figures are not impressive. As It stands, the top rated programme of the week was the BBC News Special on the day of her death, with 6.304m.

That is quite surprising. I thought I read somewhere that the figures would be in the region of over 20 million.

As there were so many 'BBC News Specials' this week (although none of the others would have made the chart individually), and as one of the editions of BBC News at Six seems more significant this week, I've only included the top rated edition in the viewing figures, rather than averaging them out as I do usually. News at Six would be #8 if I averaged all episodes.

I'm assuming EastEnders is just out of the top twenty, based on the ratings it's been getting recently? And if not for the Queen-related programming it might have snuck in.
 
The figures for the news really are rather underwhelming, aren't they? I know we've spoken elsewhere about how how people get their news from other sources increasingly, but I really am surprised they are so low. It will be interesting to see how 10 days of national hysteria affect it next week.

Yes, EastEnders would have been #21 with 3.342m. It suffered similarly to Emmerdale that one episode (broadcast on 9th Sept - I assume shunted for news coverage) had a much lower figure. If you ignore that episode for EastEnders would have 3.596m (and Emmerdale 4.244m). It looks like Coronation Street only had two episodes in the week, so I assume they either held the episode back or delayed it until outside this viewing week.

That'll be one of those long running, still very successful programmes like Death In Paradise that I've never watched an episode of.

Shetland still gets quite impressive numbers. I wonder if that will continue with the new lead.
 
New week incoming, and thankfully full figures due again. This week includes the funeral - and for all the headlines last week, the average figure (which is what this chart records) is QUITE different...
