TV Ratings 2024

How has the Jetty done? I watched it all on iplayer but was it broadcast at all? I only watched it because someone suggested as being in ‘a similar lane to Happy Valley’

In short, well. The first episode was the #1 of the week, and from a quick look I think it will hold there on average, although it dipped for the next episodes, as pretty much everything does.

I'll hopefully be posting the chart in full later.

How did you find it? I binged it all yesterday and thought Jenna Coleman playing Ember was fantastic and pretty wonderfully written and I loved the twist at the end.

I really liked it, Jenna Coleman was indeed fab though I maybe wanted a slightly older woman to play that role but it wouldn’t have worked in regard to the storyline.

Loved the dynamic between Jenna and her Mum though… and yes, did not see the twist at all.

The Devil's Chord 5.2m
Boom 4.3m
73 Yards 5.2m

Not too shabby at all then. I only asked as I seem to remember the figures seemed terribly low when I was last in this topic but I’m sure the BBC will be pleased with those.

I don't think they are GREAT - but not the failure they have been portrayed as in some quarters. And it will do better than most shows on iPlayer in the long term, I imagine. Plus of course now, how it performs internationally is far more important for its future than purely the domestic figures.

Are those averages or peaks? Some of those BBC Olympic shows were about 3 hours long

It is the average. So presumably the peak is considerably higher, for a broadcast of that length which kind of invites people to dip in and out of, considering which events were in it.

That was the era of Jesse Spencer in speedos, so the decline wasn't yet in flow

Corrie has lost 10 MILLION!! Viewers since ‘99!
I'm guessing if we had a different day, we'd see EastEnders with a similar decline. When did Emmerdale get properly popular? It was very much an also ran for a LONG time, wasn't it? Not sure how big it was in '99.

I think it picked up after the plane crash in the early 90’s.

Heartbeat got 17 millions viewers!! What the HELL.

I am PRAYING that Strictly can still manage over 10 million when it returns as these figures are depressing in contrast to those in ‘99.

I am an adherent of the thesis that prestige TV killed off soaps.

Undoubtedly, with a few other factors I think.

Prestige TV + On Demand + Streamers + Every big story being done = DEAD SOAPS

It's worth noting that it isn't just soaps - but they certainly seem to have been hit hardest.
