I thought it would drop significantly. I would have thought that will happen all the way to the finals figures. Strictly will probably overtake in next weeks chart.
 
I saw something that ITV were heralding about it getting over 350 million streams or something on ITVX. Is that good?
 
I've not read anything. But that figure sounds too high, surely.

Its good to see the BBC and ITV current big reality shows literally neck and neck and healthy figures.

I love EE but I just can't help wondering what these constant 3m figures mean for its future. Corrie is doing a bit better.

I am baffled as to how the Eastenders finances must be working.

They're doing a quarter of the numbers they were doing twenty years ago. And whilst the reasons for that are all very understandable, it doesn't seem like they have slashed their budgets to anywhere near a quarter to match.

The sets haven't shrunk. The cast have neither shrunk nor shifted towards more junior actors; it's still all Steve McFaddens and Jessie Wallaces and Adam Woodyatts who must be earning top whack. If the casts and sets haven't shrunk, then presumably neither have the crews.

That equally applies to Corrie and Emmerdale. If anything Corrie must have an even heavier payroll bill - they never move anyone on, so they've still got almost 30 actors who have pulled 20+ years of service. HOW are they all getting the funding?

i don't know whether the BBC or ITV would be more likely to take action first. Although you'd assume the BBC would face more external pressure to deliver "value for money", you'd also think ITV would be more profit-driven.

I just don’t understand how long they can keep making them for and Eastenders can keep relying on their Christmas episode.

Yes, this. The BEEB must be moving money around and subsidising EE at the cost of other departments/budgets I would imagine. But how long can they do that for?

But then Corrie and Emmerdale have been cutting costs - they're both losing an episode in the upcoming schedule changes which come into effect in a few weeks, plus you can see the cutbacks on screen with the reduction in the number of extras. The Rovers rarely looks full these days, and if a pub in real life had so few customers, it would be going out of business! I'm not a regular EastEnders viewer but I'm impressed by how many extras they still have in the pub and in the market - it seems business as usual there.

And I'm not sure if soap actors get paid as much as we would think - the big stars certainly do, but I remember not long ago the guy who plays Kirk in Corrie (dead wood who should have been axed years ago) posted on Instagram when he bought a new car - nothing flash at all, something like a Kia Sportage - and someone said in the comments "surely you can afford something better than that!" and he replied that they don't get paid as much as we think. Maybe he was just brushing off a cheeky comment, but I wouldn't like to think he was getting paid huge amounts when he gets away with doing basically a few scenes a week.
 
It's probably still good value for them. They still after everything beat nearly everything on Netflix which must cost many times the amount.

I can't help but think Tess and Claudia jumped at the right time. The show is definitely dipping noticeably this year, but I don't think the press have really jumped on it, have they? The narrative has all been about them leaving. It seems to be down around a million this year - although it had been dropping for a few years, it felt more gradual, and more in line with declining figures across the board for pretty much everything.

So now whoever takes it on is taking on a show that is in decline, and likely to shoulder the blame for any further fall, even though the rot had seemingly set in already.

Yes, even the final was a million down and that had the interest of being their final show. I wonder whether the endless negative publicity had an impact or if it is just the age of the format catching up with it (like I'm a Celeb, though this year's dip for that was smaller).

On The Rest Is Entertainment they've banged on at least twice about how Dancing With The Stars US has reversed declining ratings by getting a younger audience, through innovations and going hard on the social media. It has felt like Strictly has been pushing more online content than ever but maybe this was me looking for it in the light of these comments.

Next year is going to be very interesting all round. They've always gone with incremental changes to the format and I don't know how much they will do having already lost both presenters.

Apparently The King had 6m across BBC1 & ITV.

Strictly was the only show up on last year.
 
That's not too bad for Gladiators and I am hoping it gets loads more on iplayer - i thought the timing may have meant it was lost in the schedules on the christmas day
 
Does Eastenders usually beat the other two soaps on Christmas day? I guess people do just put BBC1 on and leave it on.
