Oh she's not going anywhere. Not with a government like this that literally doesn't even try to hide their shittiness. Even if she was edged out, she'd only be replaced by someone equally horrific.

A small moment understandably lost in the Coronavirus stuff - today was Corbyn's last ever PMQs.

Corbyn's a good egg, but I hope whoever follows does a better job breaking through to the great unwashed.

Love this from the New York Times. Sums up how I feel about Boris very nicely. He should stick to writing opinion pieces, littered with a few questionable (CHOICES!) metaphors and alliteration, and leave leading to people with a bit more substance.

The problem is that Johnson has been preparing for the wrong part. The man came to power playing Falstaff, a double-dealing, comically entertaining, shameless rogue; now he is suddenly onstage as Henry V, the wartime king whose solemn judgment, intense focus, charisma and conviction must lead his nation in a time of crisis. Mr. Johnson does not know how to play that part, and it shows. This is not a rehearsal. His careless, inexcusable reluctance to track and halt the virus earlier will have cost lives.

Throughout these last weeks as the coronavirus crisis became apparent to everyone in Britain, Mr. Johnson has been indecisive, contradictory, confused and confusing, jovial when he should be grave, muddled when a frightened nation desperately needs him to be…

Mr. Johnson found it impossible to maintain either consistency or seriousness. He delighted in describing cutting peak death rates as “squashing the sombrero” and declared with verve that we would soon “send coronavirus packing.” He has veered among solemnity, evident boredom and grins, as if his virus briefings were the Boris Johnson Entertainment Show, not the grimmest of necessary broadcasts.

According to some Tweets going around today, his approval ratings have never been higher... :zombie:

Approval ratings automatically go up in times of crisis, no? Macron went up too, even though the majority of people asked thought the government didn't do enough to stop the spread of the virus.

Yeah, they're going up for everyone at the moment. In many ways it's quite telling that Trump's are one of the few worldwide that are still overall net negative. It'll also be interesting to see what happens as things get much worse in the US.

Yesterday was the day the Dissolution of Parliament would have taken place if the 2015-20 Parliament had run to term.

What a LUCKY ESCAPE we had there eh

That's actually quite depressing, even tho' that election was a Tory victory.

Ooh. We wouldn't have been able to have an election at the moment would we. I WONDER what would have happened.

Jesus.

Meanwhile, I notice that the Mail is turning its attack dogs on Boris over the last few days. And most of the top rated comments (usually a cesspit of pro-Brexit, pro-Boris gammons) seem aligned. Here for Boris's ARTPOP era.

What's the end game for The Mail and the Telegraph bring down Johnson? Or are they just filling outrage space while the Labour party are essentially MIA?

How wonderful. It's almost like now they've secured their precious Brexit, they're prepared to throw him to the dogs.

It's an intriguing one, because Brexit is far from a done deal. Remove Boris and his determination to GET BREXT DONE and then what? Replace him with someone who's more willing to postpone?

They don't care. There's no election coming back, he is a whopping majority. Anything said or done now makes no difference to anything.

Yep, even if the papers decide to drag Boris for the next YEAR, with no election in sight it really means NOTHING AT ALL in the long run.

Brexit IS a done deal. The UK has left the EU. We are just in transition, and if they don't manage to negotiate something by year-end, it's default No Deal. Ms COVID has made a kamikaze crash-out 10x more likely. Whether it's led by Boris or anyone else doesn't matter much now. They just needed him to take it over the line, ultimately.

Oh they'll want to keep Boris. He's electoral gold. But while it doesn't matter they can mouth off as much as they like.

At least we'll all be well used to food and toilet roll shortages by then :zombie:
Another COVID-boon for Brexiters. No longer will they need to harm on about the Blitz; they can just say "you see, COVID wasn't so bad - you all* survived" when the supply lines stop

*Except X thousand

It's this entirely. They feed off scandal and outrage and this gives it to their readers in spades.

Exactly this - they keep their readership by doing this. People are angry and they're following the pack. As soon as it's "over", it'll be back to claiming Keir Starmer still eats bats or somesuch.

Seriously though isn't it time to rebel or something? At least call for a government of national unity or something? I've had enough of these Tory bastards and they're clearly out of their depth here...
