I could've sworn this poll showed 0 votes for Trump winning comfortably this time yesterday. What changed your minds @Joseph, @wildchild, @Marina Salty, @Logic?, @Cloud and @Jesse Birdsall?

About this time

Particularly nostalgia for a time you never experienced and often only imagine in the first place. Utterly bonkers.
They still long for the WILD WEST days here because John Wayne made it look so doable.

I can't engage in this conversation any more. I don't understand this world and the people living in it.

Actually that sounds terribly depressing but I made the decision earlier today to not look or read about anything to do with that man or American politics and it really did me a lot of good.

I don't know how long I'll last but I'm bowing out of caring about him or what he's going to do to that country, for very selfish reasons. Caring, it seems, does nothing.

Until that chaos reaches these shores I shall go back to my own life and be blissfully ignorant. In the meantime I hope our American friends remain largely untouched by the shitshow.

I mean, at the end of the day I am a Cis White Middle-Aged Man so I’m going to be fine. I’ve always lived among the Red and just live my little life in my blue area of the state.

I worry about the others that don’t have my privilege more than I do for myself.

nothing that's happened in the last two days comforts me.

I think the most shocking aspect is how much it felt like she had it - not just to people in our bubble, but to the Trump aides panicking on X about lower voter turnout than expected. I really don't think anyone in the Trump campaign expected a win like this. that Selzer Iowa poll was 17 points out! how'd any of this happen?

I guess postmortems are all shades of pointless. everything is incomprehensible right now. but I like the theory shared by @VoR about incumbent governments. I think we'll see a lot more one-term governments. people are stupid and unable to think longer-term than a year or two. all anyone cares about is now. you can inherit problems and still be blamed for those problems by the electorate. by next year Labour won't be able to dine out on "the Tories crashed the economy and created a funding black hole!". Biden improved the economy but his economic approval ratings were in the toilet.

so who would bother getting into government? maybe even fewer of the good ones and more of the Trumps and Musks and billionaire autocrat class. they're for the people!!!

I mean in the USA, getting into the government is usually a windfall if you play it right no matter how good or bad you turn out. I mean social media has turned it into a worse circus than it was before.

Being removed is obviously some comfort, but the implications for the climate crisis are absolutely chilling wherever you live.

I struggle to see how it felt like she had it. Most indicators were pointing towards a Trump win. That Iowa poll was the last minute outlier you often get before an election.

I certainly never felt like she "had it." Maybe a fleeting moment that she could maybe do it about a month into her campaign.

attendance at his rallies was declining. it felt like a general waning of enthusiasm for him. albeit through the liberal media bubble I'm in.

That's another right wing adjacent talking point from you in the past 24 hours. :eyes:

Code switching is a thing.
Or just pointing out how much of patronising phony she is.

It's stuff like that why she lost half the black vote.

So the blue wall destroyed and the lowest % for New York since 1992. Shocking.
I know Kratz mentioned it earlier but I’m aghast that she won New Jersey by less than 5%.

The hit on New York and New Jersey is quite a slap in the tits.

Lots of rumblings about things not adding up on my Twitter feed. THE ELECTION WAS STOLEN BUT ACTUALLY THIS TIME!

What is the logic? Did sleepy Joe leave some ballot boxes on the bus?

Illinois is 4% as it stands. Biden won it by 17%. Some incredible swings across IL, NY and NJ which no doubt factor into where things stands in the popular vote.

Whilst I am here - New York slid from a 23% lead to 11%. New Jersey from 16% to 5%.

I am not saying there is a trend, but imagine a world where IL and NJ (with 33 EVs between them) became competitive.
