I remember 2016 being 50/50 but Trump winning was just too wild to truly contemplate. It wasn't that we were convinced Clinton would win, more that Trump could never happen.

Somehow just 5 months after Brexit.

I feel a lot less comforted now I've read the 2016 thread. In my head I'd told myself a Trump win was a done deal then and this one is totally different...
I think a lot of the confidence now is people forgetting their confidence THEN tbh. a lot of the signs this time in the final days of the race are quite similar.

Looking back it's been over a decade since any general election or referendum night went my way. I don't know why I do this to myself.

At least I have the Brexiters getting their arses handed to them at the EU elections last year to keep me warm.

My mum has just told me that my super religious aunt (her sister) in Pennsylvania just texted her a message in support of Trump and ended it by saying “I don’t support sotilizm” - I don’t think she even knows what socialism is since she can’t fucking spell it.

Mum is just ignoring her and we were joking about her many many grandchildren and the statistical likelihood that one of them will be gay.

The only thing I'm really worried about post-defeat for Trump is a chronic meme shortage

I'd say 90% of people who say they don't like socialism don't have the first fucking clue what it is. They seem to think Stalin's going to sweep in, steal all their money for poor children and replace their car with a tractor.

There sure is some poor quality political punditry in the 2016 election thread. Apparently, four years of Trump will inevitably lead to a resurgence of the real left by the time of tonight's election.

They're cutting it fine.

It's quite the gag of the season that we binge-watched all of the Trump presidency before Brexit even hit its Imperial Era.

I think EVEN THAT is giving too much credit. Most of them are just throwing the word around without even bothering to try and know what it means, who was one, who is one etc.

CHINA VIRUS. CHINA BAD. ECONOMY GOOD. SOCIALISM BAD. BIDEN SOCIALIST.

That is the actual extent of the political analysis some of his more brainfried supporters are capable of.

I am so glad that I have the Scottish elections and the Scottish results of other elections/referenda to hold on to. Though if I could turn back time I think I'd be a fervent Yes supporter in 2014.

It's never late for a second referendum and joining us back <3

It's quite alien to me as an English person that there are parts of Britain which aren't actively embarrassed by their country every second of every day.

I’m trying to ignore this, I still remember my shock when I woke up 4 years ago to a Trump win. Whatever will be will be, I shall play video games and wait for the doom alert on my phone.

The STRAIGHTS taking a cue from Jark and Penelope, and battling over whose model will accurately predict the election.

Wouldn't we all in hindsight.

The 2014 referendum was odd. It felt like both sides was utterly deflated the day after and that no one really 'won'.

I’m chatting to this LAYDEH I know through Eurovision Twitter who says she won’t leave the house for the next few days because she’s that scared :(

Just to remind everyone that Biden is enough ahead in enough swing states to almost guarantee he will win. He has also not slipped below 50% for months.

I don't understand what the headline indicates.
It doesn't indicate anything other than heavy levels of early voting which we already knew since 100m votes were cast prior to today (137m total last time).

You know, while I’m continuously reassured by the political direction moopy takes, tonight would be much more fun if we had a genuine Trump fan among us that we could take all our stress and frustration out on.

@SDF find some Trump supporters on Twitter to join us for the soirée

I’m watching some report on Sky News where they go to Hicksville and interview a load of trump supporters and it’s set me on a dark path. Journalists do this on purpose to fuck with us. I need to watch something else for a bit to cleanse my brain.
