I don't think there's anything wrong with the US picking at their collective scabs for a bit, you know?

Trump is likely facing tax fraud charges from New York State - President Pence could only pardon federal crimes.

Nixon was given a blanket pardon.
Nixon was pardoned for crimes committed against the United States whilst President and Ford considered that, by accepting a pardon, Nixon was confessing that he had actually committed crimes. Pence pardoning Trump for any crimes he might have committed ever would be seriously unprecedented and I would be very surprised if some who might want to run for President in 2024 would consider doing it.

I'd expect Biden to do the whole "it's time to move forward" thing and not push for anything criminal to be pursued against Trump, which certainly wouldn't be my instinct personally :eyes:
Getting him convicted of a felony would be one way to be absolutely sure that he couldn't run again 2024. I wonder if he would have to have Secret Service protection whilst in prison.

I'm not convinced (though he won't get the option because Pence will pardon him anyway), I don't think Biden would risk losing the support of his party that quickly going in. Letting the Justice Department do their work would play a lot better for him I think.

It is also of course the morally right thing to do but as if that matters.

Random question i can't be bothered to google: the "third guy" in the race - the libertarian?

Is that just natural right wing votes? Has Donald Trump been lib-dem'ed in a few key states?

Libertarianism is essentially concerned with personal freedom above all. Its most typical view is that the state should stay out of the lives of the people as totally as possible. It's often seen as a right wing platform but it wouldn't be a surprise if some people to the left of the a Democratic Party would vote Libertarian as well.

The Libertarian Party in the US are generally considered to be right-libertarians from what I've seen - along with a few "but what if the child consents?" types :eyes: Lefties who don't want to vote for the Democrat would probably go for the Green Party, or just vote downballot and not bother with the presidential vote.

Pence is the ultimate climber! Once he's done with Trump there's not a cat in hell's chance he'll pardon him SURELY

I just had a horrible vision of a UK general election where only old people postal vote and we all watch the map turn Conservative as they get counted.

I realise there are many things wrong with that, but there it is.

There’s something beautifully satisfying about the idea that if Trump had just retired five years ago as a crap TV personality and socialite, people would have generally ignored all his crimes and bad behaviour and he could have lived the rest of his life flying between golf courses

only now he has to spend the rest of life giving all his money to lawyers to keep him out of prison.

lovely.

I’m avoiding all news and previous posts in this thread. Tell me there’s been an update!

@Ag has said a few times it’s like top 5 most popular!

More pressingly is this the longest ELECTION RESULT EVER? It’s 2.27am on SATURDAY and nothing is confirmed. What are these motherfuckers actually doing?

His legal challenges against ballots in PA have been rejected. He wants votes that were received after a certain time to not be counted. Supreme Court has said they’ll be kept separate from the others but will still be counted.

You tried Donald yet you fail once again :emoji_golfer:

So the Senate race gets a do-over with the narrative that Biden already has the presidency (most likely)? I’m sure that’ll be a big one :o

Yep, and chances are Donald Trump will have no interest in campaigning for it by that point.

I think it would be the best thing to do, to be honest. Prosecuting him would just keep the Trump Show running for another two years, and would only radicalize his base (which has grown).

I know turnout is up, presumably that means that Trump turnout is higher than before too, by a lot?

I suppose it doesn’t necessarily mean there are that many more supporters of either side, but more of them are voting (which I guess you could argue is the minimum requirement of a supporter anyway)

FUCKING CALL IT YOU CHICKEN LIVERED SHITS. I WANT MY LIFE BACK

Calling it now when there are technically enough votes left to overturn Biden’s lead in each state (even though it won’t happen), will feed Trump’s narrative of big media stealing the election.
