USA: the Biden to Trump transition

Cool.

Now that he’s going to be the VP, will they not need a special election in Ohio to replace JD Vance on the Senate?

Is Gaetz the lunatic who kept bringing down Republican speakers because they weren’t fascist enough?

it's kind of insane that unlike in the UK you don't actually have to hold elected office to take on cabinet roles in US government. he's just out here picking any crazy old bear-killing-and-disposing-of-in-Central Park NUT to serve in government.

also kind of insane that after Trump round 1 the Democrats got back in and didn't do anything to try and make it so that not JUST ANYONE can serve in government or as president! useless fucks.

You do have to be able to get confirmed by the Senate. I, for one, am confident that the 53 Republican senators will refuse to confirm the most egregiously unqualified nominees and won’t just fall into line with whatever insanity Trump demands of them.

That's not quite true, you can be elevated to the lords and get in cabinet that way.

I do think there is some advantage to having cabinet members that aren't elected. Health being an excellent example. How does securing ~20,000 votes from a random section of London qualify you to transphobically run the health service?

However accountability is important too, so it's not like it's without issue to be able to pick anyone

You don’t have to be elected in the UK. A member of the House of Lords can sit in the cabinet.

yes Cameron is the rare example of securing a cabinet role via the Lords but also the man was PM - it's not like some insane conspiracy theorist off the street was given the keys to number 11. RFK is legit insane. there should be proper safeguarding in place. imagine taking health guidance from somebody who sounds like an animal died in his throat (and is still in there rotting!).

RFK as Health Secretary is insane. It almost makes me want a new pandemic just to see what he does.

It's all starting to make sense now. The RFK appointment means the entire Department of Health will quit, thus going a lot way to satisfying Musk's ridiculous 2 trillion saving pledge.

I’m convinced Trump’s plan is to destroy the country from the inside out :D At this point I welcome it

I know he did DEALS with RFK and Elon but I didn’t expect he’d STAND BY THEM!

Big Pharma will dismember him before he even comes close to trying it.

Their whole thing with abortion was ‘let the states decide’ so if they honour that with all the other batshit crazy they’re wheeling out, the blue states can just sit back and watch while all the red state Trumpers lose their teeth and drop dead of smallpox. :eyes:
