She specifically said VE was a working title of the album to Kurt Loder in the MTV making of special
Then it became the remix project title which was ultimately shelved

I actually don’t feel this is a cash grab. A cash grab is the latest Mylene compilation they announced yesterday. :D

And yes, utter shite. At least this feels “new”, even if a lot of the content isn’t. Like I said, I thoroughly enjoy the American Life equivalent.

That would make a lot more sense although I like the official explanation too - almost like a character she was adopting. Perhaps the character was what allowed her to write such a personal and revealing album: Ive said it before but as an opening line for an album "I traded fame for love without a second thought" is staggering. In fact, that whole song is staggering.

I wrote a Facebook post a few years back (when FB was still a thing) about how it's astonishing how she went from the poetry of that to some of the nonsense in her later career. Lyrically, Drowned World (Substitute for Love) is probably her greatest achievement. You're right- the opening line IS staggering, considering the Madonna she was before it (and, of course, before motherhood), but so is that entire opening verse:

I traded fame for love without a second thought
It all became a silly game, some things cannot be bought
I got exactly what I asked for, wanted it so badly
Running, rushing, back for more, I suffered fools so gladly
And now I find, I've changed my mind

Though the peak sadness of the song is in the second verse:

Travelled 'round the world looking for a home
I found myself in crowded rooms feeling so alone
I had so many lovers who settled for the thrill of basking in my spotlight
I never felt so happy

Just perfection and I don't know that it would be topped, though the raw pain of The Power of Good-bye comes close for me. "There's nothing left to lose, there's no more heart to bruise" is JUST TOO MUCH.

I made a few comments in the Robbie Williams thread (no worse than anyone else’s). He called me a prick. I reached out by PM and he didn’t reply and hasn’t responded or reacted to any of my posts since. Whether I’m on ignore or not, I’m not sure. 🤷‍♂️

Finally the amazing Skin remix is officially released, but please give us more demos and lost remixes! Even though loads of material have leaked in the last couple of years, it would be nice to have a proper release, not to mention totally unknown songs.

Well QUITE. I was expecting a lot more from the fabled RONNY ELECTRONNY than a load of edits of remixes we already know and 'love'

I can't explain release radar but it's an old song and Spotify prioritises new music with their playlists. they don't need to push a "fan interest only" release like this

I didn't get it in my release radar either, although I did get a newly released sped up version of a Shirley Collins folk song from 1959.
 
Madge was GUNNING FOR THE TOP SPOT otherwise, but now, sadly, that hope is GONE GONE GONE.

Also, giving this a quick SPIN, I’d forgotten it has extra lyrics- which are also on the Ray of Light lyric sheet, as someone clearly didn’t correct them in time. (“Walk away…”)

Did that ever get corrected in later editions?
 
Not being in my radar as one of my most playlisted artists is RIDIC.

It’s an ESTHER CONSPIRACY :(

Takes me back to the Madonnacatalog vs Madonna’s Ashram days of those two fighting over who was going to get to release what from these sessions.
