Was Ellen DeGeneres evil?

I’ve just remembered the incident of that poor woman (who obviously had nothing better in her life and was just trying to have a nice day out and is probably DEAD now) having the audacity to help herself to more of Beelzebub McCunty’s cheap shitty rancid merch than was permitted and was publicly shamed, not to mention being given DEATH STARES
 
I hope someday Ellen googles herself and finds out about these FACTS that's she's not even aware.
 
The more I think about it, has there ever been a case of a genuinely famous celebrity being 'cancelled' and actually experiencing negative impact on their career/ability to make money? Maybe I'm forgetting some obvious example, but I'm convinced that above a certain level of fame you can basically do whatever you like (it's a bit of a clichéd example I know, but Chris Brown had a number one album last year with collaborators including Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj).
 
Kevin Spacey is pretty much the only example recently, and even then I'd put that in the Weinstein/John Leslie category of the cancellation mostly coming from actually breaking the LAW

I’ve managed to convince a few people about Lulu in recent years. They never realised until a BBC special on her career when her arrogance just shined through in the interviews.

John Leslie got cancelled whilst being cleared on all charges. Phil Spector was convicted of murder after shooting his partner in the head and you can still buy his Christmas album every fucking year without fail.

See, I don't know if that proves or disproves the theory - you could argue that Leslie wasn't above the fame threshold, as a local star (and easily replaceable in his chosen field). Oh maybe it's just a load of old bollocks either way :D

It’s certainly what I’ve found to be true of life though, that the ones who lead the moral crusade are actually much worse behind-the-scenes than the people who have a sense of humour about themselves and other people and make open jokes. That clip of Oprah and Ellen brag-joking about when they last went to the bank is exactly the sort of thing that would be prime for making fun of, and I suspect Oprah would find it funny and Ellen would blast it as VILE MEAN BEHAVIOUR

Love this and Kathy Griffin pioneering all of this over a decade ago. Let's all not forget her awful tenure as an American Idol judge.
