Wednesday don't you fall backwards

I've realised that now. But like I just said to Octy. This is a girl I've been very close to (or so I thought) for a long time. Shes never lasted more than 3 years a job and has always fallen out with management in all jobs. I now see why!

If she is talking about you at work, she is talking about you outside work. Not to be trusted one iota, and you should be glad that her true colours have came to light.

Totally agree. Since I got the management role I had an inkling she was talking about me to her now husband. Because he would make little digs on Facebook about how much I must get paid to afford holidays, and how little I'm at work etc.

Slating me to other colleagues is too far tho. And she denied it when I pulled her up on it even this 4 separate people came to me about it, one of them being the Clinical director.

It’s never nice to hear people are talking about you darling, especially “friends”. You should feel all the richer though for now seeing her true colours. You don’t need people like that in your life.

Very true. I was gutted and angry on Monday. Today I find it more amusing.

Thing is RacheyBabe being friends with people and working with people are two different things. I learnt a while ago never to work with friends because it inevitably turns sour.

I know. I'm an idiot. But when she was employed i wasnt the manager. So it was easier. I only became manager 9 months ago.

If it's any consolation Rachey it's clearly her problem, not yours. But you know that already.

How badly do you want to save the friendship? I mean I'd suggest it doesn't mean that much to her if shes acting the way she is, but that's not to say you may feel like you want to salvage it. But if you do want to, I'd be very blunt about calling out her behaviour. And she is the one who needs to learn to live with the work situation, or just move on.

A couple of weeks ago when a similar situation happened I was genuinely sad about it and didn't want to lose her as a friend. But now I'm over it. She clearly isnt a real friend and I'm at the point in life now where I've got my friends, I'm not wasting time on people who aren't friends.

What does concern me is who else she might slate me to and will it affect my reputation and job.

You've got a good reputation and are well thought of by others apart from her, though, haven't you?

Of course it's never really nice to be slated by others, but in my experience the vast majority of people aren't stupid in this respect - or at least the people who matter. People soon see who the person with the problem is, and given what you've said about her having a poor employment record, the odds are stacked against her in the first place.

Shes being unprofessional AND a crap friend. Doesn't look good either way.

Yep very good reputation luckily. And I get on well with other management. But in a place with 40 women and 5 men it can get bitchy so I do worry whats being said.

Im not really cut out for management. I'm too nice. But so far no one has taken advantage of that. But this girl has.

have her fired and write a lousy letter of recommendation
I'm trying to think if I can fire her. It's a nightmare firing people. I've fired one person so far and that took 6 months.

That is a horrid situation @Rachey . What is she saying about you though?

Is she criticising your management style or being a bitch about you?

I emailed her asking her to work in a different branch because she had a hospital appt. It was easier for me to cover her at a different branch and she was then only a 10 min walk to the hospital as opposed to a 2 hour bus ride. Plus she was taken on to work at all branches.

She replied basically refusing because she didn't want to get the bus. I said in a nice way it wasnt optional. So she then started shouting to everyone in branch about how pathetic it was, she wasnt happy with my decision, I was being petty etc. Then apparently said I only wanted to to move so I didn't have to go on the desk because I couldn't be bothered.

Theres more. But it's all very similar. Refusing to do as I ask and then bitching about it to colleagues.

Just give the bitch a warning. It's simple as that.

I wasnt sure if I could. HR didn't mention it but just said to pull her up on it.

She's acting massively unprofessionally. If she doesn't pull it together, she should fuck off. You tried talking to her earlier and she's done fuck all- tell HR you're going to go through with it. I wouldn't have ANY of that SHIT. Life's too SHORT.

Well I'm off for a week from tomorrow. But I've asked the other manager to see what shes like. Annoyingly shes lovely to other managers. It's just me she wont listen to.

And there's your problem. You're being too nice and letting her get away with it. If she's been cunty once and you've done fuck all, she'll push it and push it until you do something, whilst making yourself look weak in the process...

I know. I have said to my manager I've been too soft. But the last 2 weeks I've stood my ground with her and she hates it and shes even worse. I know now I've got to continue to be tough.

She's just pushing boundaries, and now having a tantrum because you're enforcing them.

It's work at the end of the day. Unless you're self employed we all have to do stuff we'd rather not be doing, but you suck it up and get on with it. Or just fuck off. She has those two options, ultimately - don't give her a third.

Yep that's what I'm doing. But being forceful doesn't come naturally to me and luckily the other 13 people I manage are fine and dont push the boundaries. So I've not had this before. I think I'm also a but sad because I've obviously lost what I thought was a good friend in the process.

Oh the joys of management :D
Forced me to toughen up massively! If the other 13 see her getting away with all sorts then some of then will inevitably try it on too! It’ll get easier !

Oh I do hope not :(

Well hopefully they will think she’s a twat. If she gets away with things people start to resent it though, so stay strong ! You’ll surprise yourself!
She's definitely no longer getting away with things. And because shes bitched about me to the other receptionists they kind of know what's going on and a few of them are really pissed off with her.
