Back at work today! I couldn't sleep at all last night, despite knowing everything here would be FINE my stupid brain just wasn't having it

Hi Moopy.
I woke to a message this morning to say my mum was rushed into hospital last night after collapsing with stomach pain.
9 hours sat in A&E and she's just been taken to a ward but still no idea what's wrong.
I'm meant to be taking her to London on Tuesday for her birthday, but I think I'll have to cancel. I'm hoping the hotel give me a refund or that's £300 lost.
Do they have a Twitter account? Do some bad publicity and they might change their tuneThe hotel are being arseholes and won't let me cancel, if I change the dates it's an extra £250![]()
That's what we were thinking, but it doesn't look like they use Twitter much.Do they have a Twitter account? Do some bad publicity and they might change their tune
Maybe on their Google reviews? Or their TripAdvisor? Wishing mom a speedy recovery RacheyThat's what we were thinking, but it doesn't look like they use Twitter much.
I've just emailed them again and said what's actually wrong with her, explained we're coming from the island and it's for her 70th, explained we still want to come and can we rebook at a later date at the price we originally paid (which was still just under £300!) So I'll see what they say.Maybe on their Google reviews? Or their TripAdvisor?

If they used Twitter I definitely would.I mean this is a genuine medical emergency, they should show a bit of compassion. Bully them on social if not.
It’s a perfect way to treat him. That's no way to treat poor @ZenGiraffe
An outrage
It’s a perfect way to treat him.

I mean you SAY that...

Thank you!Hope surgery for your mum goes well, @Rachey - and fingers crossed you come to a solid compromise with the hotel![]()
Thank you! It was through Booking.com so I have contacted them as well. Weirdly, the hotel seem to thing I have a booking that cannot be amended or cancelled at all. But my booking.com confirmation says I can cancel up to 7 days prior. Annoyingly I'm 12 hours late.I’m sorry to hear that @Rachey. I hope your mum gets well soon.
As for the hotel, speaking from many years experience of working in the travel industry, the hotel haven’t done anything wrong. When you booked the hotel, there would have been various rates available, and usually the cheaper ones are those which have a no cancellation policy or a smaller period of cancellation allowed. It’s also a pity you don’t have travel insurance. People think that this is only needed when travelling abroad but it’s in cases like this where it is necessary - and also things like luggage going missing, hotel room being broken into etc.
I would definitely look into insurance for all your future trips this year - you can get annual policies to cover all trips.
I know that won’t help you for your current trip, but hopefully it should help for any future trips.
As for the hotel, I’ve spoken to my boyfriend who is a hotel manager and he says that if you know the date that you want to change to, they might let you do that, but it’s all dependent on when you want to go - January is the cheapest time of the year for hotel rates, so it’s going to be more expensive at any other time of the year, they can’t be expected to honour that cheap rate in January in say, April.
Did you book through the hotel directly or was it through an agent eg Booking.com? If it was the latter then you need to speak directly to them as that is who your contract is with, not the hotel. If the former then perhaps email the hotel manager or CEO directly and explain the situation.
I think the best you can hope for is a change to new dates and pay the difference.
Let me know how you get on and if you need any help. X
