Wednesday makes you wait for no apparent reason

Why do pharmacies always take so long to just pick out a pack of drugs? I am literally the only person in the hospital pharmacy, put my prescription in at 08:45, no one been in since and still I’m waiting.

I swear they do it to make themselves look busy and more important.

It's my brother's birthday and he's in town which is nice.

I have an interview at his old school tomorrow morning.

Last time we were at the eye hospital Mr F needed eyedrops. They told us it'd be a half-hour wait at least so we went for a coffee for forty-five minutes. Back to the pharmacy, another fifteen minute wait to only receive half the eyedrops and an owing note for the rest. Got home, rang the GP and made them do a prescription to the local pharmacy for the balance of the owing note.

It's a specialist eye hospital and the drops they didn't have enough of are the ones that are given as standard to every person who's had eye surgery.

Since I've been in the position of needing regular prescribed meds, I HATE going to pharmacies. The bit that I imagined would be difficult (requesting the repeats) is a piece of piss thanks to the NHS app - done in seconds and I don't think it's ever taken more than two working days for a GP to authorise it.

But then it seems to take forever for the pharmacy to send a text to confirm it's ready - if they do at all. But even after they do, when you turn up at the pharmacy, they never seem to be ready for you, there's usually multiple rummages through various boxes, asking 'are you sure you had the text?', then when they do find it they can't dispense it to you because the pharmacist is in the consulting room with someone else. It's all such a thoroughly miserable experience and feels like something you'd expect in the 1950s.

And that's not just my local pharmacy. I visit and liaise with pharmacies all the time due to work (and hear the reports from my clients), and around these parts at least, they all seem to be pretty much the same.

It's probably unreasonable to ever think 'oh good, I've got to go to the pharmacy today', but I don't see why it has to be such a depressing experience.
 
I tried to get my prescription delivered but apparently that service is only for old ladies who can't get to the pharmacy unaided :(
 
Our chemist made so many mistakes with medication that an outside company now supplies the prescriptions, ready made up in sealed bags. The chemist still manages to get it wrong. In August I picked up Mr F's prescription (two bags) and my inhalers (one bag). Arrived home and one of the bags stapled together was Mr F's and the other bag belonged to somebody else, which I discovered when I opened it and found a load of heart-problems medication. Obviously I took it back and got the correct bag but I'd love to know how they explained it to the man whose bag I opened.
 
I've been sick as a dog this week

Guess I picked up something when I went to the doctors for a flu vaccination last week

It's lucky I'm a fan of IRONY

Is there not a company that does it up there? I just use Pharmacy2u and it's actually really good (they just took over Lloyd's Direct, who were APPALLING). Entirely free of charge, including delivery.
 
I get my presciption sent to the pharmacy - I can usually pick in up in a couple of days and the pharmacy is close to my flat. God bless the NHS.
 
I've long been of the opinion that pharmacists are lazy bastards. They take an hour to find some drugs and generally look like they've never experienced the stress of a hard day's work in their life. They probably work on some knitting between customers or something.

THIS. I mean, WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY DO? Just say "Yes, this is valium" and move on.
 
When I used to work in a GP I spent FAR too much time rejecting requests from the pharmacy as they were ALWAYS requesting meds that weren’t due. They can’t even bloody count :evil:
 
I wouldn't want to be a pharmacist in Glasgow when some of the natives come in for their methodone.

Am thinking of swapping to Pharmacy2U which delivers them. They're rubbish. Always an item missing or they say it's missing, get home and it's there. 3-4 days too after Dr. sends repeats through. HOPELESS. USELESS. Somtimes text me, if they remember...

All the places I've ever looked at need you to be registered with an English GP. We have a different (worse) central system which means we can't have the same level of electronic access and sharing, plus I imagine that the economics of delivery don't work in Scotland as we have free prescriptions.
 
I was VERY tempted by a 4 pack of mince pies today, then I remembered were still in BRITISH SUMMER TIME
