Wednesday stinks

@Floppet do you have a heads up on the best time (if at all with overcast) to see the meteor shower this evening?

I’m constantly tired despite not doing anything. 😞

YOO HOO

Does “working farm” mean the people there basically slaughter the poor little animals to pop in their sandwiches, or sell them to people for chopping up in return for £££? I might have to start going to the ZOO instead

Umph. I've got to go in for about 4 hours today. What's the fucking point? Gah.

Not always. But if it has a lot of animals and no crops, probably.

Every time this happens I wonder if this is our apocalypse moment and the government are busy flying themselves to their underground warrens and we’re all looking up to the sky as the planet sized rocks come raining down on us

Let’s face it, they’d never tell us.

Oh its worse than that...

As if humans will still be living on earth in the 2700s :D

we’ll be lucky to survive another 100 years!

Nothing will beat the hysteria around December 21, 2012 :disco:

You’re too young to remember Y2K

but yeah 2012 was fun. I remember being in Barbados at the start of that year and there were posters all around the island advertising the apocalypse and to repent, like they were advertising a car boot sale.

How do you think we will die out as a race and what to do you think will replace us or will the world just be BARREN?

I’m quite certain we’ll continue to survive in some capacity, just not the numbers we’re at now.

It really interests me to hear people’s thoughts on all this. I am very open minded about it all and don’t really know what I think. The world is always evolving so I suppose anything could happen at any given time.

I read a book that set out some ideas and one of those was the advancement of a group of superhumans, who acquire godlike abilities through science and technology, and wealth and power of course. Quite chilling when the author writes words to the effect of “and if you want to know how this group of superhumans will treat the average majority, just look at how we treat other animals now today.”

If you’re interested in how we got to this point, ‘Sapiens’ is really interesting too. It says that wheat enslaved mankind :D

Superhumans with powers like X Men for example?

I wish! But more like an access to things that cause an advancement of life, potentially eternal life. It’s like an extension of what is already happening today. Rich people can afford to eat superfoods all the time and avoid the stresses of everyday life, obtain the best medical care etc. So with technological advancement in healthcare this small elite is likely to have first access to anything that can give longer life.

Ooh I have Sapiens, it’s been on my reading list for about a year :D
I would definitely recommend! One of the most interesting parts for me was about why Homo sapiens have managed to cooperate so flexibly in such large numbers, whereas other groups have failed, leaving us to be the number one divas in the game (monkeys can cooperate flexibly but not in large numbers, and ants can cooperate in large numbers but not flexibly)

it talks about how the success comes down to us sharing imagined realities like laws, religion and money, and the collective buy-in that, for example, this piece of paper with Queen Elizabeth’s head on it can be exchanged for goods and services. It describes jobs like lawyers as more like ‘powerful sorcerers’ who perpetuate this reality wow @Iguana Harry Potter I love your work

funnily enough I was watching Elysium last night which explores this.

If we can move past scarcity-based economics and into a post-capitalist society then there's a good chance we'll all become superhumans.

It's very easy to err on the side of ultimate destruction but we're quite a wily little species. We've survived to this point through countless wars, famines and plagues so I would imagine we'll pull through any future and imminent disasters because it's just what we do.

The singularity needs to hurry the fuck up so I can lounge around reading poetry and doing ket forever.
