I think I did the rise of the USSR and Maggie vs the miners. Was I radicalised in the classroom? Who can say.

God I find Russian history tough. Mostly because the names, beyond Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky, Cathy the Great and Rasputin are so alien.

GCSE History really lit an interest in me as we covered Nazi Germany, Communist regimes amongst other things. Queen Anne at A level didn’t quite cut it.

Higher History was a SNOOZE. We studied UK electoral reform in the 1800s, and the Russian revolution (with what felt like about 3 months covering the assassination of Stolypin).

I was the last year before GCSEs were introduced, and you couldn't even do general studies at O level. It was for the children in the CSE stream only.

I missed out on my A* in A Level history because I flopped at Irish history and they were looking at RANGE and BREATH rather than total score apparently. Even though I scored higher overall than A* Paddy. not bitter x

History is an odd one though. I cared about the fun stuff but a lot of people clearly cared about the subject more and I got by on being good at writing. It really showed at uni when I couldn't make up historiography in my essays any more.
