WHAT ABOUT: "You'll See."

I have truth on my side, you only have deceit.

I'm also annoyed I failed to include Love Don't Live Here Anymore, the single remix, which I fucking love, though I realise everyone else will POUR SCORN on that.

I thought I was literally the ONLY person on moopy who loves that song.

OK using Sheena's logic this would be mine

1. I Want You
2. Live To Tell
3. Frozen
4. Rain
5. The Power Of Goodbye
6. I'll Remember
7. Take A Bow
8. This Used To Be My Playground
9. Love Don't Live Here Anymore
10. Forbidden Love (BS)

just missing: Oh Father

I decided Sanctuary definitely wasn't a ballad but it if it was it would be #3. Fucking love that song so much.

What if I said I prefer it to the original

I would duck if I were you.

That being said, I think I love the original only marginally better, which is something in a world where Madonna doing a Rose Royce ballad just sounds wrong on paper.

She deserves all the credit.

1. Live To Tell
2. Frozen
3. The Power of Good-bye
4. Paradise (Not For Me)
5. This Used To Be My Playground
6. Oh Father
7. Time Stood Still
8. Take A Bow
9. Rain
10. Pray For Spanish Eyes

To be honest I woke up today and chose
I'll REMEMBER

But that's for another day and time

^ I’ve just chosen Intervention.

She’s got a remarkably strong catalogue of ballads which I think people don’t realise unless they think about it.

I like ‘I’ll Remember’ for about half the song then get bored.

I RARELY choose I'll Remember. Like Rain, it's one of those songs I know is technically a fucking fantastic pop song, but I just never warmed to it quite in a 10/10 way.

I’ll Remember always felt like a song she did for the money and otherwise has no interest in. I don’t think I’ve actively listened to it in a couple of decades.

I LOVE I'll Remember. It's one of my go to Madonna tracks when the mood takes me.

I learned to let go
Of the illusion that we can possess

Hmmm Top 12
  1. The Power Of Goodbye
  2. Gone
  3. Live To Tell
  4. Easy Ride
  5. I'll Remember
  6. Inside Of Me
  7. Take A Bow
  8. This Used To Be My Playground
  9. To Have And Not To Hold
  10. Rain
  11. Promise To Try
  12. I Deserve It
Plenty of others bubbling under too.

This is beautiful.

I said it at the time of our Madonna tour lockdown sync watches (let’s bring those back!) that The Girlie Show was genuinely brilliant vocally, and I think this just proves that point.

The fact that it's scored mostly 10s, but isn't high in many people's top 10 of her ballads, means that Madonna is surely Queen of the ballads!

Something To Remember being one of the great compilations EVER MADE is testament to that

SuBo's version of 'You Have To Be There' is genuinely one of my least favourite covers ever. Her phrasing is appalling, and although I wouldn't criticise her voice, it utterly lacks any emotion - and considering it's a song about religious faith (albeit written by an atheist), I find that really quite bizarre.

I am glad she did not get round to covering 'Bitch I'm SuBo'

I was just about to come in and say I have no idea why, but Susan Boyle absolutely nails “Wild Horses”. Whatever the take on her she gets my vote on that cover.

The only post-2000 ballads I have time for are:

Master Plate
Falling Free
(does it count? not sure)
Joan Of Arc (demo version is a ballad okr)

c'est fini
