The second-to-last episode of Seinfeld with Good Riddance by Green Day

Also from The Simpsons, the episode where Bart gets caught shoplifting and it causes a rift between him and Marge (and ruins the family portrait), then at the end he's hiding something under his jacket and Marge thinks he's done it again but it's actually a replacement photo of him. Then as a bonus, Marge giving him the golf game right after and Bart pretending he likes it just really gets me even more

Also sorry to keep mentioning TV shows but this Golden Girls scene

I'm counting this because it's a MUSICAL.



This is from Kristina fran Duvemala, and at this point the protagonist has had so many terrible things happen to her that she starts to question whether God really exists. God was a massive icon at the time this musical was set, and so this would have been a really big deal. My favourite thing about this incredible performance is the look of wonder from one of the chorus members on the right. She is all of us, in awe and wonder at how one person can generate so many emotions with just one voice, one face and one performance.

Yes that scene in the Golden Girls always gets me, as does the very final scene of the series. not just because of how clearly genuine the feelings were but how beautifully Bea speaks about friendship and the surprise of finding it later in life.

I believe it was 2020 Valentine’s Day when it got a re-release at the cinema. Went to see it with a friend as we’d not seen it on the big screen. A couple of rows in front there was a young couple in their 20s who had clearly never seen it before. The girl starting loudly WAILING at the end and shouted “IT’S SOOOOO SAAAAD INNIT?!” :D
 
I also cried on Friday night while watching Tobe Hooper's Funhouse because the characters visit the freak show and there was a cow with a cleft palate :D
 
I had a phase of watching The Notebook when drunk and alone and it ruined me every time. I know it's basic white straight shit, but I can't help myself.
 
What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr. It's an absolute snotfest for me.

Also Marley & Me, the beginning of Up, The Color Purple, Steel Magnolias and Corinna, Corinna.

I don't cry often at fiction, but Wit, and specifically this scene, is exactly what first came to mind for me when I saw this thread title. It's harrowing.

It never seems to be TV or streaming services.
 
Ricky Gervais does know how to finish off his dark satirical comedies with an emotional punch. The one that stands out for me in particular is the Extras finale when he goes on Celeb Big Brother. You kinda need to see the whole episode to understand it but it’s the performance of Ashley Jensen as his neglected best mate that KILLS me, as she reacts to him having a meltdown live on TV

 
Inside Out, the animated film, always gets me. Such a sweet story.
 
I think for something to get to me like that, it needs to be a surprise to me - if a "sad" scene is flagged up in advance, I know what's coming and, I guess, have time to detach myself. So it's often when a "comedy" suddenly throws something serious at you that it'll make me well up. One that absolutely devastated me was the time The Fast Show did this with Sir Rowley Birkin QC.

 
I have often cried at the end of Lady Bird with the letter. and of course poor Timmy bawling by the fire in Call Me By Your Name.

Not a film, but the end of Final Fantasy X also gets me a bit teary. The only game I think that's managed it.
