I need to switch mobile providers before the end of December and now I’m thinking to go with Vodafone because they have an Entertainment bundle to include a YouTube Premium subscription, then I can cancel my existing one. Only their “deals” are absolute rubbish, giving you a 24 month contract with a decent rate for 6 months, then whacked up to £50 per month after that. So that’s not even bloody worth it :angry:

Are there any better deals at all? Waiting for Black Friday to at least bring something up.
 
I got shot of Netflix but you can't change yr vote to have no boxes ticked so I've clicked "other" to signify that I pay for content on Patreon which is the closest I've got now.

We don’t have it here but it’s meant to be coming in 2026.

It’ll be like Disney in that it’ll have lots of exclusives that fall under their media ownership, which includes all of HBO and Max, Warner Bros, which means it includes all WB movies, and their IPs like DC, Harry Potter, Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, Lego, all the New Line properties including LOTR, every WBTV show such as Friends, Big Bang, West Wing, all of Turner movies and all of Discovery. And whatever they acquire. So it’ll be a lot.
 
So what service/platform has what will be on HBO Max currently?
 
It’s also the beginning of the end for Sky as I don’t know how they survive without HBO and WB, as they’ve had exclusivity/first pick in the UK for about 20 years. They already lost most of Disney. They probably need to move into a Movies/Sports package and focus on movie premiers and live events

Beat me to it - Sky has full rights to HBO. They basically created Sky Atlantic because of it. They modelled themselves on HBO for years - their NOWTV is basically old version of Max.

I got a free Amazon Prime month and I see they have started inserting ANNOYING AMOUNTS OF ADS unless you pay more. FUCK OFF

Also if you can't work out how to watch YOUTUBE without any ads then you deserve to be RIPPED OFF :)
 
I find Amazon put lots of ads on their more recent and popular titles. Watching Malice which was in the Top 10 had ads every 10 minutes, but I’ve just watched a whole film from 1982 and there was only one ad at the start.
 
Amazon has become I watchable. It really annoys me that they’ll put an ad in before you start watching anything, even if you’re already halfway through something or have turned it back on in the middle of two other ad breaks :gross: And sometimes the breaks are four minutes long. Fuck OFF

I only keep it because it’s an added bonus to the free deliveries. But I’m definitely watching a lot less on the platform than I used to.

Like I said, totally depends on what you’re watching. I’ve just watched 3 whole films this morning (because I’m having a lazy Sunday) and only one ad each.
 
Yes, I've found the same as Ellie with older films and shows. Still, that's no comfort when you want to watch one of their new flagship shows.

But then thankfully they have few of those anyway. I'm sure the vast majority of people with Amazon Prime have it for the free deliveries. I know i wouldn't pay for it otherwise.
 
We resubscribed to Netflix at the start of November, after about two years without it. Then spent that month watching little else other than Netflix, and I've now paused the subscription rather than cancelled, which you can apparently do for 3 months, and then repeat the cycle. Very tempted to do exactly that going forward - subscribe for a month then pause for three. We very much don't need to have access to it all the time.
 
Unless there's something specific I want to watch, YouTube is very much my go to when I just want to find something to watch for an hour or so. I subscribe to enough channels now that there are usually a handful of new things each time I log on. And the algorithm seems better than pretty much any other service in terms of offering me new things I may want to watch or listen to.

The ads on Netflix at least are usually one or two at most so it’s a good compromise.

However on ITV X getting a full plethora of adverts for a 20 minute comedy makes you want to exit the service.
 
They've all become unusable unless you pay top dollar. Streaming is the object lesson in enshittification. I'll take Netflix back for a month once there's enough I want to watch but I haven't missed it.

Yeah, I don't find the ads on Netflix too intrusive at all. We've just had two months of it, watched all we wanted to and have cancelled it again. Slightly pissed I'll miss the ANTM thing later this month, but it'll keep until summer or whenever I decide to subscribe again. We've got lots of stuff stored from Sky that we didn't watch while we had Netflix - it's hardly like we don't have anything to watch.

Actually we might give Apple TV a go for a couple of months as well before going back to Netflix - think it's about a year since we cancelled that, so I imagine there's a fair bit there to watch again.

Subscribing to each service for few months each year is definitely the way to go for us. Paying for them all of the time seems crazy now.
