I spent about 6 weeks in hospital when I was about 11 years old.

I became allergic to my own blood 🤷🏻‍♀️

It was the first time I ever had scrambled egg!
 
I've never been admitted to hospital. They very nearly did last year when I was having a check up and my blood pressure wouldn't drop below 200/140, but they started me on meds and sent me on my way instead.
 
11 days in summer 2007, I had a horrendous stomach problem. One of about four or five overnight admissions I can recall.
 
I once freaked out because I thought I’d taken 12 paracetamol in a 24 hour period so called 111 for advice. They told me to go to the hospital, and if I didn’t attend within an hour they’d send an ambulance for to my address. Of course if you report to A&E for an OVERDOSE (even 4 paracetamol) they don’t let you leave for 24 hours and make you undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Once. Thought I was dying. Wasnt, just too much 2CB. Came round about an hour later, apologised profusely, went home.
 
Only ever had day visits, thankfully. I lost my footing climbing over a fence a couple of years ago and came down so hard onto a metal pole with my chest that I was worried I might have some internal bleeding. 6+ hours in a waiting room to finally be told I just had a couple of bruised ribs was a relief, but also quite underwhelming.
 
I've only been in as a Day Case, three times, and all for my WILLY. :eyes: There was talk of keeping me overnight the first time, but I cried so it didn't happen. (I was a child :oi:)
 
About a week when I was 13 followed by a few weeks off school. I had twisted all sorts of internal things and was in a huge amount of pain overnight, my mother diagnosed it as trapped wind but decided it might be best to have it checked the following day when it continued.

I also remember refusing to take my clothes off for checks because they kept bringing round student doctors who were shadowing the doctors and nurses and I didn’t want an audience.
 
The only time I've been in hospital was when I had a fly behind my eye that I could feel wriggling and moving behind it.

Went to a&e, spend two hours or so waiting for a doctor, and when I was finally called, the act of standing up caused the fly to move round to the front of my eye and the doctor got with a cotton swab in a second.

This happened to me too and it's stuck with me. I'd already presented myself as pretty BASHFUL so to suddenly bring in a parade of students to all come and look at a traumatised 10 year olds bits was all sorts of wrong.
 
I once downed bottle parectmol hole bottle felt normal zero happned me told no one etc but don it wanted prove seilf zero happen didnt my werid days ant like more 😂👊🏼👍😀

8 days. Despite Indie's concerns, the food - on the days I was able to eat - was excellent.

Had 2 or 3 days when I was younger too. I remember quite enjoying it so I can't have been that ill.

Maybe it's location specific. I have visited relatives multiple times and it looked awful.
 
31st March - 5th May 2012. I now know it was caused by an extremely rare auto immune disorder but at the time they had no idea what was going on.
Happened once more in 2022 but I stupidly discharged myself after 3 days.

Well, all I remember is I had the flu. Then I couldn't shift it. I couldn't keep anything down. My whole body was covered in a rash and my joints seized up so I couldn't move at all.

Doctors came out and sent me straight to hospital where I was bed ridden for about 4 weeks, I had to use a bed pan 😭

They pumped me full of antibiotics, fluids and kept checking my blood pressure.

No transfusion or anything, and the nurses told my mum it was so rare they'd probably never see another case in their lifetime 🤷🏻‍♀️

and then it just went away? Sounds very scary

My brother had a similar-ish experience. Got the flu, then subsequently had loads of autoimmune attacks on his own body which resulted in body-wide rashes and issues with mobility.

Well I then came home and was on bed rest at home for a few more weeks and had to have regular check ups.

But the only long term effect I've had from it is high blood pressure.

Did he get hospitalised? And did they say what it was?
 
I spent five days after giving birth to spawn in 1992. There was a smoking room on the maternity ward in the olden days so I really spent one day pushing her out and four days in the smoking room waiting for a nurse to come and say spawn was awake so go and feed her.

In 2022 I spent five days in when I'd had a stuck kidney stone and a massive infection. They didn't want to let me home because they kept saying I'd die if I went home but by Sunday afternoon they decided to let me out, probably because they were fed up of me traipsing downstairs with my drip stand for a fag. That was spent on a "stomach problems ward" and honestly, the smell of stoma bags being changed will live in my nightmare memories for the rest of my life.

Aren't you on any meds for it? I've just been put on a second one starting today as mine isn't coming down quite as hoped.

No 😬 and the doctors haven't tested it since I was about 18 and was on reductil weight loss tablets, and I got taken off them because they made it go so high. It's not been checked since.

Do you have symptoms when yours is high?

None at all. Hence it being called the silent killer, presumably. I would get yours checked though, if you know you've had issues with it previously.

Pretty much any pharmacy will do it here. My mum did buy me one of those wrist cuffs, but it's not very good compared to the arm ones.

Interesting! I wonder if it was similar to what I had. Although I didn't have chemo, but this was 34 years ago.

I was kept overnight once when I had a really bad flu and fainted, hitting my head off the sink in the bathroom.
