When will Starmer resign?

WHEN... money grows on trees? that's when...

  • by the end of this week

  • by the end of February

  • after the May council elections

  • by the end of this year

Results are only viewable after voting.
I think there's enough delusion that with a change of personnel he can survive a while longer yet, but realistically if more Labour MPs start to come out calling for a resignation I'm saying this month.

Anas Sarwar is about to publicly call for Starmer to step down. Although that could just as easily cause a huge rift rather than a resignation.

I'm sure there was once a time when he had prime ministers for a decade at a time. If he goes that will be the seventh in a decade.

If not this week, I reckon:

If the Green Party win the by-election, he's gone by end of Feb/Early March.
If Reform or Labour win the by-election, he may stagger on until May, but the council elections will surely finish him off.

I do think it's social media, and how that in turn has made our awful partisan press even more feral. I'm not sure what the solution is, outside of the UK public wising up to the damage of both (unlikely)

Agree. I genuinely don't think in this climate we'll ever have a Blair or Thatcher again.

He's only doing it because he sees his own chance of becoming First Minister at Holyrood slipping down the pan. He's as trustworthy as a snake.

The Greens winning the by-election should finish him off but I think he’ll stubbornly hold on until the council elections, where the losses will be so humiliating he’ll be left with no choice.

Downing Street have released a statement, basically saying he's staying. Lammy and Reeves have backed him.

I think that press conference has actually guaranteed he'll hang on now. They're all releasing statements of support for Keir now. Even BIG ANGE.

To think Ange wasted a lovely blow out on this.

I can understand the logic for MPs to want him to hang on until May, but why Eluned Morgan hasn't already stuck the knife in is baffling.

He's inept but should we really be welcoming this, because does history not tell us we won't end up with BIG ANGE or CAMP EMILY as the successor, but instead EVIL WES?

Given how well this played out, how long before Sarwar faces calls to resign and a leadership challenge?

Maybe it's finally Dame Jackie Baillie's time to shine... :zombie: :D

5 of us were wrong - 21 of you may yet be proved right. if he survives into next year we were all wrong and whoever made the poll should be BANNED and SHOT

I don't think he's going anywhere. Certainly not before the local election results, but I don't think they'll oust him afterwards either now.

it's probably for the best that they don't. the switcheroos were so damaging for the Tories.

The machinations are definitely underway for Streeting to challenge and Rayner is ready to step in and block him.

I don't really rate Starmer but he's doing OK in certain areas and I think he should be given time to do the job.
