Self titled debut album:
  • To the Moon & Back
  • I Want You
  • Truly Madly Deeply
  • Tears of Pearls
  • Universe
  • Carry on Dancing
  • Violet
  • Break me Shake Me
  • A Thousand Words
  • Promises
  • Santa Monica

So many good songs !

Then again, there's Affirmation:

  • Affirmation
  • Hold Me
  • I Knew I Loved You
  • The Best Thing
  • Crash & Burn
  • Chained to You
  • The Animal Song
  • The Lover After Me
  • Two Beds & a Coffee Machine
  • You Can Still be Free
  • Gunning Down Romance
  • I Don't Know you Anymore

No contest for me, it's Affirmation. The debut was pretty rotten at the time and I doubt age has matured it like a fine wine.

I really can't take much of Darren's voice at a single sitting.

Darren's solo stuff is more of a conundrum. I've enjoyed some of it but not quite as much as I'd hoped to.

So unfair! There are some brilliant songs on it.

I've got some (most?) of Darren's solo albums too - he's great!

"Savage" Garden Top, er, 5:

1. Crash And Burn
2. Affirmation
3. The Lover After Me
4. Hold Me
5. Truly Madly Deeply (GLOOP)

The second album's got a bit of bite but the first one is just SONIC SYRUP

I've got 5 Darren solos (if you include the SMUG one), though there may be more :D

I was going to give The Tension And The Spark (which I LOVE) and Delicate Thing a relisten but realised it's THREE hours for them both!

The first one for sure; a classic at the Raspberry estate.

Also Darren’s Insatiable remains one of the sexiest and best songs to ever be recorded by a male.

I remember more songs from the first but it’s very dated. I can only remember 2 of the second one.

I assume that would the This Delicate Thing We've Made DOUBLE ARTISTÉ ALBUM? :disco:

Too many to choose from but:

01. To the Moon and Back
02. Tears of Pearls
03. Carry on Dancing
04. I Knew I Loved You
05. Gunning Down Romance

1. Crash and Burn
2. I Want You
3. Hold Me
4. Affirmation
5. I Don't Know You Anymore
(6. Two Beds and a Coffee Machine)
(7. To the Moon and Back)

So tell me isn't happiness
Worth more than a gold and diamond ring?
I'm willing to do anything
To calm this storm in my heart.
I've never been the praying kind
But lately I've been down upon my knees;
I'm not looking for a miracle -
Just a REASON to believe!

P.S. I would not be offended in the slightest if a moderator were to move this to the Pop Toilet forum. Just putting it out there.

I never really GOT Savage Garden, although Moon And Back and Crash And Burn are wonderful 90s radio songs despite heavy use of the word “and”.

Why did they never reunite? They always seemed to have QUITE DEVOTED fans, and surely could have done one huge (and worldwide) comeback tour pre-corona.

I rinsed out the first album a lot, I think it’ll have dated a lot worse than Affirmation, but I think I’ll still enjoy the nostalgia of it.

also it’s a rare pop album that I ‘discovered’ before it blew up with TMD, so it fed my fantasy.
Affirmation was good I think, was it a bit ballad heavy though?

I liked Savage Garden but knew they were technically dreadful. I like the first album more than the second. They were very much a singles band for me- there is some real dreck hiding in the album filler.

I love Darren Hayes solo, though. There’s some really interesting, quirky stuff in his back catalogue.

SAVAGE GARDEN TOP FIVE

1. To The Moon And Back
2. I Want You
3. Truly Madly Deeply
4. Crash And Burn
5. Affirmation

DARREN HAYES TOP TEN

1. Bloodstained Heart
2. Black Out The Sun
3. Popular!
4. Fear Of Falling Under
5. On The Verge Of Something Wonderful
6. Dress You Up
7. Casey
8. Strange Relationship
9. Who Would Have Thought
10.Insatiable

ALBUM RANK

1. Secret Codes and Battleships
2. This Delicate Thing We’ve Made
3. The Tension and the Spark
4. Spin
(5. We Are Smug)

I like them all, but the first three are top notch. A pruned version of “This Delicate Thing...” would be close to a 10/10 album for me.

Truly Madly Deeply just came on the radio, on whatever station Mr L has settled on today. I'd forgotten how unbearable it is.

Can you even IMAGINE the royalties Truly Madly Deeply, and to a lesser extent Moon & Back and I Knew I Love You must still bring in to this day? Designated to sit on MOR radio playlists all over the planet for ALL ETERNITY!

There is a reason why Darren Hayes has been able to retire from music and just fanny around on social media and podcasts doing SOD ALL for his entire existence...

not to mention them being shoehorned into every rom com &/or drama series soundtrack when it's possible
