I skipped my Friday booking as I was just too tired. Going tomorrow instead. I really do need to see it again as I have far too many criticisms and my initial rating is clearly from bias. Now I’m more prepared, maybe it won’t bother me so much.
 
My second watch this morning was a BIT OF A SLOG I must say
 
I have my first watch this evening and I am CONCERNED that it isn't getting insane praise like the first part, even though I am familiar enough with the source material to know that is NOT A SURPRISE

I really liked There’s No Place Like Home. Couldn’t understand half the lyrics of Girl In A Bubble thanks to Ariana’s MUSH MOUTH. Since she’s so famed for her talent of impersonation she must be parroting the established known songs as her diction is fine there.

The new songs were pointless, and the Elphaba one actively BAD. Also how were those Giraffes meant to fit in that tiny tunnel please?

The child actors were awful, and didn't really add anything either.

I saw there has been DISCOURSE about Glinda being included in Wonderful, and I actually think it was a great choice. It made her more actively complicit, increased the pull factor for Elphaba to rejoin with the wizard, and meant that they didn't need to worry as much about Jeff Goldblums singing :D

I'm FURIOUS that they got rid of the transition from the I'm Not That Girl reprise into As Long As Your Mine. It was that songs only redeeming quality! Also the previously mentioned cut of Elphaba's FIYEROOO at the start of No Good Deed, though I enjoyed the way they adapted it for the screen otherwise.

I can't decide what is more HAUNTING, Scarecrow Jonathan Bailey looking like Ryan Reynolds, or the deaged Goldblum in an entirety pointless flashback. If people hadn't figured out he was her dad by then, they didn't deserve to know at all.
Overall, whilst not as good as the first half (a problem shared with the stage show) it was still really good. Ariana especially, give her a second novel peace prize!

Now excuse me, I simply must hop on Grindr in my CHUNKIEST KNIT
 
Isn't it just far bigger in North America (and the UK/Ireland) than anywhere else?

International is usually around 50% of domestic for blockbusters in opening weeks - staggered releases, smaller markets, less interest in US titles in certain markets, etc.

Part II has the 2nd biggest domestic opening of 2025. It's a huge success.

LOVED the first one. 10 for that

I found this one mostly dreadful though, performances and costumes and As Long As You're Mine aside. The plot's a mess and the songs ain't there my loves
 
Went to an early morning showing today and really enjoyed it.

I still think Grande is sensational and the best of the lot.
The scene with her face close up for a long time as she goes through the grief of losing Fiyero to her best friend and is wrestling with her conscience and inherent “need” to be good vs throwing her best friend under the bus (which ultimately results in Nessa dying) is fantastic. That was my favourite. I want to watch it again- she was so good.

I thought she was even better in the first film as the comedic stuff she was absolutely the best at, but some great work here. Erivo was right up there too.

The most awful thing was the Scarecrow. I had to close my eyes- his face absolutely set my trypophobia off and I sent me down an anxiety spiral that I DID NOT NEED IN THE MIDDLE OF A CINEMA. :D

Anyway, 8/10.
 
Absolutely. The more I watch them, the more I love Ariana’s performance.

I’ve seen it 3 times now and probably won’t go again. Appreciating the two new songs a little bit more, especially The Girl In The Bubble.

The change made to The Wicked Witch of the East is what bothers me most. By all means add in stuff, but don’t take things out :(
 
There were bits I really enjoyed. Generally though it was pretty slow and a lot of BALLIDS. The performances blew away the storyline, or lack thereof!
 
I know it's a problem in the stage show as well and I need to let it go, but Nessa really is the Barb from Stranger Things of this franchise.

The way her having a house dropped on her head is treated like at worst MINOR GRIPE by all the main characters really tickled me. :D
 
Well I enjoyed this but I knew I would. I still think it was a major misstep to put in TWO new songs and both of them ballads when almost the entire second act is ballads - boggles the mind. There was an opportunity to have a big fun set piece moment like What Is This Feeling or Dancing Through Life that would bring something new to the huge audience already familiar with the stage show. I get that the tone of the second act is very specific but it's a musical, shoehorn it in if you have to! Also I would have happily took an extra ten minutes of plot exposition particularly around the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion as that was all very rushed.

But beyond that it looked beautiful, the performances were amazing and the mix of humour and drama was skillfully managed for the most part.
 
Watching this now on my dodgy firestick. I've completely forgotten how the last one finale'd, but I doubt it matters.
 
There haven’t been any singalong screenings for For Good have there?
