If it takes two films to get the whole story across, why not? When I saw it in London a few weeks ago, I did think how insanely plot stuffed the whole thing is. Every song has a crazy amount of plot and character crammed into it.

A sassy gay and a funny lady as Galinda’s friends. This project sounds worse with each announcement. (Not the actors fault, they’re icons).

I heard that Jeff Goldblum is the Wizard but I haven’t bothered looking at whether that rumour stands up.
 
Oh apparently it was literally confirmed a month ago. There was I thinking I had some hot musical theatre scoop. :D

Which film will 'Popular' be in please? So I can skip the other one.
 
I think the whole thing will be padded.
 
To be fair they have the opportunity to base it on the books, not just the songs and story from the musical, so it doesn’t need to be padded. Maguire’s Oz has wonderful depth and lots of layers that the musical had to ignore. I hope they reintroduce them; some of the themes are even more relevant today.

I’m sure Disney is gonna want more of the book, a lovely disco number for the orgy scene where (if I’m remembering correctly) a small person gets fucked by a Tiger

And he wasn't quite right after it...

I'm assuming we'll get some scenes with Elphaba and her sister as children and more college stuff with lessons in spells and charms à la Harry Potter. They might also show more of the political stuff that's only hinted at in the stage show.
I'm worried about the second movie though, there's not really a lot happening once Elphaba is in exile, it's more about her regrets and descent into madness.
 
There’s a whole section with Fiyero’s family. But also that’s a lot of new music to write if they want to keep it a musical.

Yeah they need an original song for the Oscars. A gothic orchestral masterpiece of Elphaba’s descent sounds just the ticket :disco:

I don't think any of that will make it to the movies. There's a death of a child in the book, they can't show that. And Fiyero isn't married in the show, he's engaged to Glinda in the second half. I'd say it's gonna be more about her Animal activism that backfires and makes her out to be more of a villain.
 
I want more of the politics. Oz as a fake news populist and Elphaba as a crazy lefty who is discredited for exposing the truth :disco:
