William Orbit DEAD (2 Viewers)

before he could produce Mitch McConnell's big comeback album? :(

I have just learned with sadness that William Orbit has left us.
We met in the early 1980s, at a time when he was still unknown. With his group Torch Song he had released the album << Wish Thing » which I listened to on repeat. The production was so innovative that I wanted to meet him to work with him. He agreed and contributed to a few tracks on my album << Pop Satori » such as <<< Paris Le Flore » in particular. His contribution truly gave the production direction to that album. Alas, the failings of my record label, which did not pay him on time, spoiled the relationship and William abruptly put an end to this collaboration. In the 1990s we met again and he brilliantly remixed Epaule Tattoo, which remains one of my favorite remixes and is also a kind of making amends for that missed opportunity from the 1980s. We all know the brilliant productions he later created for, among others, Madonna, Blur, Prince, Kraftwerk, and Beck. A true wizard of sound. Thank you for everything, dear William.

I'd only discovered his work (and bought Ray of Light on CD) recently/this year. I also really like that version of Pinkpantheress' Nice To Know You with the Sugababes remix. He must've had quite a hard time, and his family must've struggled following the news too. :(
May he rest in peace and be remembered for his creativity. 🥲🎨🔊🎵
 
Given they produced one of the great albums of all time, it's a shame that he and Madonna didn't reconcile. I've no doubt she never forgave him for the diss he made after recording with her for MDNA. Wish they could have had a better ending though!

His production definitely had an impact on my taste. The amount of times I had to hold back describing a song as ethereal on my top 500 list, is a credit to him really.
 
I love that he was an oddball. Some people are so wonderful that they just live in their own little world and he certainly did if you ask me. I secretly hoped he would properly work with Madonna again (in a non-rushed capacity) as Ray of Light was just so special and breathed new life into so many broken hearts.
 
A shame. He also managed to squeeze one of Blur's best albums out of them while the group were as fractious as hell with each other, "13".

Quite a legacy. Rest In Bass, William.
 
He really did have some talent, he produced such a wide range of music.

He told the Guardian in 2021 that he struggled with substance use four years before. As well as heavy marijuana use, he was taking “LSD, mushrooms, MDMA, coke, some hormones that everybody was experimenting with. Codeine. I wasn’t aware of what I was doing and I ended up having a psychotic episode.” He was sectioned. “Fortunately, once the drugs were out of my system, I finally got back to being normal – and out I was,” he said.

I'm not sure he did return "to normal" or if he ever was :eyes:
