I am currently into this recent discovery, her latest album came out last August and I'm working my way through it. Best track is "Head Over Heels"

Although I'm obsessed with this older track which is how I found her -

Karyn OBVIOUSLY heard us talking about her in my 90s thread as she's decided to make a COMEBACK :disco: new song alert!

Here's the Ari album. Not feeling it tbh. Aside from a couple of tracks it's doing nothing for me.

I think I need to go back to it. I love her voice, and there's a lot of 50's / doo-wop references in the album which are quite interesting. Sometimes you have to give an evolved sound a couple more tries.

Listened to this (some of it anyway) on the recommendation of this post and it's smashing! Thanks!!

absolutely gorgeous from Ms. Monet. the flute (?) - obsessed

More of the same from Essosa but I really like her vibe, bit lo-fi, bit psychedelic

Calling all lofi R&B fans ( @K.C. ) this is such a GROOVE

This was recommended to me on Instagram and I'm proud of my algorithm

OK this song is ridiculous and already one of my favourite songs of the year. So gorgeous.

from a new EP Subject To Change which contains her "Cotton Candy Blvd" single and 5 new tracks, which range from good to great.

Just listened to this EP and it's gorgeous. 'Til Infinity and Cotton Candy Blvd are also excellent.

Multiplicity sounds very Shaznay Lewis coded to me. Which makes it 10/10 BY DEFAULT.

We simply MUST talk about Olympia Vitalis.

Lots of Amy Winehouse and Raye similarities, but much closer to the originals of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday etc than either of they were/are.

I don't know whether she's in her development phase and soon to break out, or wether she's destined for being a minor player, but she's released a few songs this past year and they're all GOLD.

Chilled summery soul

The new one throwing out some classic bluesy pop

But this is the one. Needs to be listened to in full, the way it builds and the story she tells.

A live version:

STAR!

Squeal, she’s back.

Mother remains one of my favourite albums of all time. I’d put it in my Top 3 of the 20s with Jessie Ware and Sam Fender.

This has picked up a bit of steam in R&B circles and it has certainly been a grower with me. Really enjoying this over the summer.

Also this album is exceptional. Her lack of success is criminal, although she does get a lot of critical and industry love.

Shay Lia is BACK! But OT and more importantly, Kaytranada is BACK!

It's more of the same, and exactly what I wanted :disco:

The new Lalah Hathaway album is fab, and way more mainstream/accessible than most of her stuff - she's channelling her dad on some of these tracks for sure - less jazz and more funk and groove

Haven't listened to it fully yet but I do like Sipprell's subdued and slick neo-soul sound

I haven't really enjoyed her recent work (her 2019 album Shea Butter Baby is one of the best R&B albums of the 21st Century) but she's done well with the recent Vacancy project - she's released a deluxe called Late Checkout and a few new tracks on there. This was my highlight.
