Came home intending to hate watch Argentina, fell asleep on the sofa and just woke up :disco:

We HAVE to beat them Wednesday, if only because there’s nothing worse than having to play a third place play off.

I just saw this. Tuchel is a fucking vibe. man was just SPINNING OUT on television. :disco: the interviewer really stirred the pot to get that reaction from Jude though.
 
I fell asleep just after half time thinking though Switzerland were probably the better team, Argentina had it in the bag and then obviously missed all the drama.

Watching clips now and that red card was deserved. Couldn't be a more blatant dive.

It was a full emotional reaction. Absolutely mad. He seems like an intelligent man, but highly unregulated.
 
I agree with pretty much everything he said though. It was grit and Jude Bellingham that got them through that match. They need to do better in the semis.
 
Oh sure, but I wasn't prepared for a full managerial outburst, after the kind Southgate years.

Contrary Mary again but I’m not against the IDEA…but the format would need looking at seriously. I also think that expanding to allow other continents a more equal, or certainly greater, share to develop their football is a valid point. But of course, there is the (also entirely) argument it just means more money…
 
I wouldn't mind it. Doesn't even need much in the way of change - because there's already a round of 32, all that would need to happen is another four groups and reverting to just the top two from each group qualifying. Which I think I'd actually prefer, because it would get back to there being more jeopardy in the group stages.

Although if they do go ahead with it, the least they can do is have it so there are eight matches a day in the group stages, rather than six, so it doesn't drag on so long. There'd be enough groups that they could increase that a chunk and still leave a decent amount of time for recovery between games.
 
one of my concerns is that once it's 64 countries it's never going back - and that will limit how many countries can host, especially if we're looking at more games per day as Penny says so that it doesn't sprawl to being a two month affair (impossible within the footballing calendar).

essentially it could mean we never have one country host again and it's always spread over 3+ countries. I mean the next edition is already 3 host countries plus 3 more on a different continent for "one game each" (?!). which is pretty absurd. but if it becomes so huge the chances of it just being hosted by France or Germany or Japan again feel tiny to non existent. it's always gonna be more and more.
 
The whole size and cost of tournaments is going to mean more multi-country hosts anyway.

And not just in football…

I imagine FIFA want to push towards continental rather than national hosting long term anyway.

The problem here is the organisational element and also viewership. For the final group match and behind the scenes, that takes an insane amount of person power to pull of, with those matches simultaneously on meaning resources can’t be shared. Suddenly you need more people involved in every element.

Like I say, they really need a decent plan on how to pull it off.

No reason France, Germany and Italy couldn't do a joint hosting at some point in the future - and Japan did do a joint hosting anyway when they did it. I wouldn't be surprised if China gets the nod at some point to try and expand the game more there.
