I don't think I need another version of Wuthering Heights, and even if I did this isn't going to be it

It kind of looks like the heavily photoshopped glamour shots people used to put together on the Sims forums I frequented as a teenager.

I'm excited for this as a showcase for some CUNTY outfits and as a vehicle to bring my girl Sky Ferreira to THE MASSES.

Everything I've seen of it looks absolutely wonderful to me.

Enjoying this headline from The Guardian

Wuthering Heights review: too hot, too greedy adaptation guarantees bad dreams in the night

Emerald Fennell’s take on Emily Brontë is an emotionally hollow, bodice-ripping misfire that misuses Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi but makes the most of Martin Clunes

:meh:

Somewhere between 2 and 3 stars for me. It generally looks great, in the most over designed way possible.

Margot is fine to actively bad at times. Elordi is fine and hot but not ever beastly enough to be Heathcliff. They're both miscast. The direction is pretty lacking and doesn't bring out a single great performance from anyone. Vicky Pepperdine (for like three shots) and the kids are probably the best. Shout out to Martin Clunes and Clem Fandango in prominent roles.

It was also weirly unsexy? I know it was cold but all the fully clothed sex scenes were weird.

Oh and when they were having the affair and had a shag in her carriage out on the moor, WHERE WAS THE DRIVER?

@Moderator Can we have a poll please? The title can be "Hiya Cathy how's you?"

I’m an Emerald apologist and think Saltburn was a great CAMP THRILLER, and it’s best you don’t consider it a cultural critique of class. I’ve not seen this yet but totally believe she has bought into her own hype and delivered a steamy dog egg, but equally expect I’ll have the contrary opinion that she’s delivering the smooth-brained Wuthering Heights adaption society deserves!

I thought Saltburn and Promising Young Woman were great. This feels like a big step down in everything other than glossy production values

Yes even the most scathing reviews say it looks spectacular, shame that was her focus rather than engaging with one of the most beloved pieces of English Literature.

Oh, it was FINE.

Very much Wuthering Heights by way of The Notebook with extra frigging, and it sagged a bit in the middle, but on the whole I was not un-entertained.

Some truly WILD visual choices, as is Emerald Fennel's way. Hong Chau stole the show. I kind of want them to do a legs akimbo remake of Rebecca next.

I'm ready for it, but I'm not sure I'm ready for half the internet to become overnight Emily Brontë experts and performatively hate on it for weeks on end.

Also a quick glance at the Letterboxed reviews and unsurprisingly, less than 24 hours after its release this is exactly what has happened.

Letterboxd is an amazing tool for film logging nerds and i love the platform. Once again though, another place ruined by the users.

I spent a chunk of the film wondering just that. She won't have seen it yet - she's been so busy! - but she'll get to it in coming weeks. I'm thinking a weekday matinee, one of those silver screen type affairs by herself with a handful of other pensioners. Where does she live now? Is there an Everyman cinema near her? That'd be perfect. She can have a nice frothy coffee in an armchair and watch at maximum comfort

And then she'll probably fucking hate it - it doesn't even include Cathy wanting to be let in to Heathcliff's window - but she might still reference it as 'wonderful' in her end of year message if she thinks fans are clamouring for her take on a new Wuthering Heights.

The reviews have been scathing but I’m still excited to see it! Am I a masochist?

If her South Devon home hasn't succumbed to coastal erosion yet, Kate's definitely an Exeter Picture House kind of woman.

If she can get to Plymouth there's a far superior Everyman there
