I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't like musicals as a RULE but I do find this VERY WATCHABLE

especially when Stockard Channing is on the screen

I just DO NOT LIKE TRAVOLTA

There is NOTHING AT ALL bad about Grease. Nothing whatsoever. One of a few I have on VHS and DVD... Only 9/10 for me though, cos I have my 10/10's and this ain't one of them!

I've realised through doing these polls that I have VERY FEW 10/10 movies meself...

I was just a bit too young to be into the film when it came out, although I remember my cousin Jane who is about 42 now was utterly BONKERS about it and carried the LP about with her at all times so she could play it wherever she was :D

I can quite clearly remember how the singles dominated the chart that summer, as well. Poor Father Abraham and The Smurfs :(

I've heard it said amongst Abba fans that the success of Grease was the reason why they never released another single off 'The Album', because they knew they couldn't compete. Most of Europe did get 'Eagle' as a third single, after all.

One of my favourites, but I wouldn't give it 10 because for that I'd expect to remain 100% riveted and enjoying it throughout and I think it sags ever so slightly in the middle for around ten minutes.

I can't vote on this as I've never seen it (I think I must be the only person on earth never to have seen it)

Of course, this was on Channel 4 today. I first watched it when I was eight and got bought the soundtrack, which I listened to so much it's unbelievable. But only the songs I liked then.

I watched the film again today and it's so great to get an adult perspective on it. Yes, it's still amazing. Rizzo and Kenickie ARE the best characters but GOD, "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" is a TUNE. I can't believe I skipped it on the CD for all those years!

I caught the last half hour. I noticed it odd being on Channel 4 as it is usually ITV. They left in some scenes that ITV usually cut for TV. I don't know if they played the whole thing uncut though.

I'm sorry but I really really can't bear it.

I know, objectively, that it's a really good film. And I totally get the appeal.

But it makes my skin crawl.

4/10 because objectively it doesn't deserve to a 0 and because 'Hopelessly Devoted' and 'There Are Worse Thing I Could Do' are good songs.

What PRECISELY about the film makes your skin crawl given that arguably the two most saccharine and sentimental songs in it appeal to you? :D

Anyway AMAZING FILM. So many classic scenes that I don't even know where to begin. There are at least TEN songs on the soundtrack that I really LOVE. My favourite is probably either Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee, Beauty School Dropout, the title song or, rather predictably, We Go Together but honestly, barely anything falls flat except perhaps the reprise of Sandra Dee sung by Sandy.

I always loved Marty though and wish she'd been given a bit more to do because she was basically a glorified extra, snap for Jan (both are FABULOUS in the sleepover scene at Frenchy's :disco:). I think it's amazing how well the film captured the 50s (not that I'm talking from EXPERIENCE here) given that it was made 20 years on, and it really shows when compared to that repulsive sequel whose title I can't even bring myself to write, which had the feel of something set very much in the then-present rather than the era it was trying to capture.

To summarise - best musical ever. One of the best films ever. :disco:

It's actually pretty decent. Good performances, good music, a good story, and then they fucking ruin it with the flying car at the end. Utterly ridiculous. 6/10

I heard that Jan and especially Marty had more reduced roles because they had exaggerated their singing and dancing abilities on their resumes and hadn't had proper auditions. The whole deal with Marty hanging around with Vince Fontaine at the dance was because Dinah Manoff couldn't dance at ALL.

Or is that an uban myth?

THIS LOOKS FUN

How does that Julianne Hough keep getting work? (Answer - she beards for a lot of gay men).

Here for Queen Carly.

Apparently it was excellent.

It's on ITV2 on Wednesday

I've watched a few clips of it and it looks pretty good. It seems Vanessa H as Rizzo is the STANDOUT

Lovely to see Didi Conn from Grease 2 making an appearance

I watched some of the perfs, it was good apart from the general "why bother?"-ness of it all considering it's exactly the same as film, just less charming.

Apparently the Daily Mail picked up on about 3 “woke” comments on social media recently about Grease being sexist and blew it up into a GREASE CANCELLED palava, which of course got picked up by other shitty tabloids just for some click bait. Poor Didi Conn had to get roped in to defend it.

It’s such an old and stupid criticism too.

I kiss WHO I WANT, WHEN I WANT

I ain’t no-one’s trophy, Goose

Maybe I’m tired of being someone’s CHICK

Oh that's a much better one! I was stuck for a third one and had to resort to PAULETTE

Although why we didn’t just bump the Grease 2 thread I DO NOT KNOW.

Grease would be better if it was about RIZZO.

'ELVIS! ELVIS! Let me be! Keep that pelvis FAR from me!'
