I'm shocked at how many people are putting The Name Of The Game in their top two.

I used to think The Name Of The Game was really boring, but once it gets its hooks into you...

It's such a beguiling little record.

I love it

I'll never understand why they edited out the "I have no friends/No one to see/And I am never invited" verse out for the single

It's the BEST BIT

The Name of the Game is one I LOVED for YEARS, but can't stand to listen to these days.

Oh, I still think it's grand. Those spooky verses are just marvellous, with Don's couplet truly an ABBA highlight.

I used to find it really boring and it has grown on me to the point that I actually quite like it now, but it's still well below the level of most of their other singles for me.

They didn't actually for the original single, that's an edit for a US-only promotional single that somehow ended up on 1982's The Singles - The First Ten Years compilation and a lot of GHs ever since (including the original ABBA Gold although the full version was eventually reinstated).

TNOTG would have been one of my least fave ABBA numbers as a pre-pubescent, but it gets better with every year I age.

Well I never

I don't think any song proves why pop music is essential as well as Dancing Queen does

Your boyfriend might have dumped you, your mum might be dead and you may have just been diagnosed with cancer, but DQ is the song that might just lift your spirits enough to DANCE AROUND YOUR BEDROOM and remember why LIFE IS fundamentally FABULOUS :disco: :disco: :disco:
Loufoque Post of Life :disco: :disco: :disco:

For me, this is a performance everyone can relate to

I echo most opinions - this really is THE pop song of ALL pop songs.

Everything about it is perfection. Overplay or not, I honestly cannot think of another pop track that embodies the concept of pop music to the level that this does. This song itself IS the genre.

I wouldn't choose to play it, but when I do I always like it.. unless it's like at another wedding disco. As NME observed, a good song can be ruined by overplay (that Young Folks whistling one from the advert) but not a great one.

And this is one of the all time greats for that classical sounding intro alone, no wonder Freed cried.

Anyway, who knew about THIS. Admittedly I'm no expert on Shania Twain album tracks but I was shocked when thatsongsoundslike.com pointed this one out:

Pop champagne fantasia finery at its absolute finest. It's jubilant, drowning in despair as joy or joy as despair - I have no resistance to it.

I'd never pop it on, but it is pure pop majesty in every way. An incredible piece of music and truly :disco:

It was 50 years ago today in Sweden. In the UK it was three days ago.

I don't think it was released in the USA until late 1976.

It’s wild how relatively few big hits ABBA had in America.

This is their sole #1
Only 3 other top tens (Take a Chance #3, Waterloo #6, The Winner Takes It All #8)

That said, When All Is Said & Done was a top 30 hit there, so they have that on us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANCING QUEEN. We ❤️ you

Here's that first performance:

Wishing Dancing Queen a very happy birthday. Get the dildo out hen, you've earned it.
