Pete Burns DEAD (1 Viewer)

In other Pete musings:

- That Lauren Harries video is utterly mesmerising from the outset but goes to ANOTHER LEVEL with Pete trying (and largely failing) to smash through the paper door. The fact that he then obliterates the entire thing with the kind of VOX SHOWBOATING that Aretha would have liked to have been channelling at Divas Live and it's truly one for the very AGES.

- I had no idea Wayne Hussey had a co-write on "You Spin Me Round". I hope he's made lots of moolah from it.

- The "Begin To Spin Me Round"/"I Begin To Spin" (take your pick) mash up remains one of the greatest things EVER. Especially in the EXTENDED VERSION with added DEAD OR ALIVE BEATS.

OH MY DAYS YES. Absolutely THRILLING

Dannii, of course, paid tribute to him by saying how honoured she was that he allowed the mashup and that she's still proud to perform it today. It is UTTERLY MAJESTIC.

Oh I didn't know that. That makes me love him, her and it even more.

I wondered that as well, especially given how amateurish the base.com website looks, so we shall see (with crossed fingers)

Regarding the i-D interview, what a JOY. FURRY BACON ALL ROUND :disco:

I've used the site before and it's reliable generally...

That's utter bollocks though! He says in his autobiography (I think! Or somewhere...) how fucked off he was about it as it was the record company that allowed it, not him, and that he felt his "art" had been "bastardised", though I do think he said he was grateful for the paycheck. He certainly wasn't HAPPY about it and he certainly didn't "allow" it :D

This really is another Diana / Mel Appleby for me. Three days in and I'm STILL bawling

It's certainly stayed with me. Thank God for Moopy as otherwise IRL I've heard comments such as "I thought he was Boy George".

:D

Good old self promoting Dannii.

I mean, it was better than his original, so I can see why he'd be annoyed.

Oh, stop spoiling things. Let's be honest, Pete did change his mind a "fair bit". It was part of his NAIVE CHARM :D

"Q: "What do you regret about the things you've said about other people?
A: EVERYTHING"

I can well imagine that from one day to the other he both LOVED and LOATHED the mash up. Dannii, however, I can well imagine has rightfully been ETERNALLY GRATEFUL.

p.s. that autobiography is second only to Boy George's follow up to "Take It lt Like A Man" in being entirely useless!

As I recall, the only good part of Pete Burns autobiography was the last chapter where he gave up all veneer of narrative and just wrote up a list of all the famous people he hated and why. :D

p.s. "Take It Like A Man" is one of THE most ESSENTIAL 80s pop biographies OF ALL TIME

If you haven't read the bit about GEORGE and MARILYN watching KEITH RICHARDS doing a cunty impression of them both through a window whilst off their trollies on smack in Jamaica, you need to STEP TO IT

Or his account of when George Michael drove through Soho in his convertible passing GEORGE and MARILYN who were off their trollies on smack and started screaming 'HAIRDRESSER' at the Greek?

It's where my infamous and oft mentioned line of "Right loves, who do we hate?" whilst in the pub with friends comes from :disco:

Are you listening to the same performance? I mean compared to Lauren he's incredible, but his vocals are absolutely dreadful in that performance!

No, I must be listening to an entirely different performance of "You Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record)" as performed by Lauren Harries featuring Peter Burns!

My point was that's it's hilarious how Pete just BELLOWS over Lauren, the crowd, the backing track, the theme tune, etc. without a notion of there being anyone else on stage BAR HIIM and it being all the more fabulous for that. Hence the Divas Live reference. I wasn't actually suggesting it was some kind of a vocal masterclass!

Also NOT CWEJ taking a comment about a performance by LAUREN HARRIES and PETE BURNS completely seriously!

But I was being serious! It's what forced DAME KIRI TE KANAWA into retirement when she could no longer compete (and I'm talking with Lauren here).

Not read his book, but in interviews his main beef with the Dannii mash was that they used old images of him - that she looked awful when she started out, so how would she like it? :D

I still legit play I Am A Woman on a regular basis especially the Dirty Pop Extended Mix.

MY NAME IS LAUREN
M-M-MY NAME IS LAUREN

:disco:

Having said that, I do wonder if base.com will actually have any stock as well or it's one of those places that just leaves things up and then tries to fulfill rather than knowing what it actually has...

I've just got an email from them saying that there's a delay and I'll be getting it in FOUR WEEKS, which presumably means they're making more but I want it NOW!

My absolute favourite anecdote
Same here. I bet even George chuckles about it now.

Let's not forget Marilyn's BEREFT plea (whilst off his trolly on smack) to Diana Ross after she snubs him at the Atlantic City concert though:

MAZ: But Diana, what happened to "reach out and touch..."[?] :(
MISS ROSS: They're just WORDS, Marilyn. Just WORDS...

:D

I bet they've got the CD burner going into overdrive (as the £££ signs spin in front of their eyes). From that interview though, it sounds like they did right by Pete, so I will no doubt be purchasing a copy too (I need those 25 versions of "You Spin Me..." in my life!).

The box set is pictured on his Twitter banner, which is probably getting more clicks than ever before.

Bob's such a love. Great quote from Julian Cope as well :(

Frankly my dears I think I may never be quite the same again after all this

I'm thinking this "Boom Box" ain't gonna come from Base. It was "Pending" last night and now has moved back to "Pre-Release". Which is GREATLY TROUBLING as everywhere else appears to be SOLD RIGHT OUT.

How did I leave Hooked On Love out of my top ten?

Well, I know what I'm thinkin'
Is the direct result of drinkin'...

The box set has started shipping (early?) and still includes the signed print

I'm going to frame mine and pray to it every morning

I'm listening to TURN AROUND AND COUNT 2 TEN after BOB STANLEY cited it as a TRUE GREAT

Personally I preferred COME HOME WITH ME BABY but who am I to quibble with BOB
