Olives do seem to be the most MARMITE food stuff these days. Astonishingly this at least the 4th topic about them on Moopy, but is has been 7 years, so I'm ok with that.

I'm always amazed by adults who DON'T like them. To me an appreciation of olives is not so much of an acquired taste but more a rite of passage.

I totally get this. I feel it always separates those with a more developed taste in food to those who... well I don't know what people who don't eat olives eat.

A really good, fat, juicy green olive is a thing of UTTER BLISS.

I love them, especially stuffed with garlic. And the shiny big green ones. But I hate it when you order them in restaurants and they have clearly just got them from a jar from Tesco's

I think the natural course of life in relation to olives is that you hate them as a child but you bloody love them when you're grown up.

I am at this minute drooling at the thought of enjoying a bowlful together with some Marcona almonds and some manchego.

Oh I hated them as a child. Find me a child who likes olives and I'll slap them.

Quite gross. I don’t mind a chopped up black olive as an ingredient in another dish, but green ones are vomit worthy.

I don't think I even knew what one was until I was a teenager.

Same for herbs and spices, really. The only herb I was aware of was mint, and the only spice was pepper. And that was white and powdered.

No BASIL or even Rosemary?

Definitely not basil. Rosemary POSSIBLY. But it certainly was never in anything my mother cooked.

Salt was the only flavouring she ever added. And then salt and pepper on the table.

Outside of horrid processed chicken kievs, i don't think I knew what garlic was, either.

I'm not a fan. My 5 years old niece loves them and thinks that anyone who doesn't is weird. But she talks to a 5 inch LOL Surprise toy and expects an answer so, y'know, yer mileage etc...

I don't think they're Satan's haemorrhoids or anything like that, they're just not for me. It's not like tuna where I'm offended by the very presence.

until quite recently black olives were one of the only foods i could not even stand the smell of - i find their odour rather pungent. these days i can handle them if they're cooked but i'd still much rather they keep the fuck away.

i do like green olives however, preferably well stuffed.

I don't like stuffed olives. I prefer them plain or with herbs, like thyme

I eat olives almost daily, they're the perfect snack

I ADORE olives- all types, but if I had to rank:

1. GREEN
2. BLACK
3. PURPLE

I have to say, though, I've moved from fresh olives to tinned/ jarred massive ones from expensive delicatessens, which are generally INCREDIBLE
