TV ratings thread

I see Ghosts is up there in the Top 20 too. The 3rd episode was nowhere near as funny as the first 2.
 
Does this include on demand services? I watch GoT on NowTV, but I've no idea if they'd include that.
 
I really liked The Bay! :o

The Widow is up next for me..
 
Has anyone here been watching The Widow? I have also not started it yet, and am not sure I can be bothered. Is it worth a watch?

Wouldn't particularly recommend, though I saw it through and finished it tonight.

There were some exciting sequences and it felt quite high budget for an ITV drama (though it was a co-production). Howevef, it all dragged on a bit, Kate Beckinsale was really quite annoying and the tone felt a bit patronising.

I think I will give it a miss. I know very little about it, but it hasn’t jumped out at me as a must watch.
 
I watched the first Episode of The Widow last night. I wasn't gripped and a little confused. Debating whether to continue with it

9.1m average in the overnights. By comparison, the show above (which ended up with 10.917m) had a fraction under 8m in the overnights.

It is the last of the auditions this week on BGT so I assume the figures will fall throughout the daily semi final stage.
 
Yes, a few big dramas finishing has seen EastEnders climb a few places for example, but the figures are pretty much identical to last week.
 
The soaps are falling in ratings so much year by year you tend to wonder where they will be in 10 years time.

Looking at the viewing figures for last year, the semi finals lost about 2m viewers from the audition stage, but then it climbed back for the finale - although the finale was lower than 3 of the audition weeks.

It's getting to that time of the year - the evenings are lighter, the weather is (a little) warmer.

Save for major sporting events, ratings for most things bottom out a bit. The soaps in particular almost seem to go into summer hibernation with filler plots and then kick off again in September.

In fairness everything is falling. Figures are way down across the board as viewing habits change. But soaps do seem to be even worse hit - didn't it used to be Corrie or EE at #1 every week a good few years back? It was rare for them to be beaten by a drama series.

And as we've said before, I bet people are still watching the whole of Line Of Duty etc on iplayer now, which isn't captured in the figures. I doubt anywhere near as many people are catching up with several weeks of the soaps.
 
In many ways it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. They used to be screened much less, the networks saw the ratings and wanted more. Now there's SO MUCH that it's not an event anymore.

I think some of the changes are positive - we've seen a lot of drama series' occupy the top spots this year and I can't remember that happening for a while. I do think the style of storytelling more commonly associated with America has infiltrated television habits here thanks to Netflix, etc.

Plus soaps have always had that disposable convenience to them - miss an episode and it's easy enough to pick up again. Now we're in an age where live TV itself has become disposable and that leaves soaps in a somewhat precarious position because a lot of people are either cherry-picking which episodes to catch up on, or not bothering at all.

The only soap I watch regularly is Neighbours (:D) but the others? I'll watch a few if they're on but otherwise I wait until there's an event week or a significant episode and just watch on-demand to catch the salient points. It's just not sustainable to write unmissable drama for 3-4 hours EVERY WEEK, so by definition soaps have become incredibly missable.
 
I totally agree. Soaps should go back to twice a week max. Although I do still tune in, I wouldn’t have time to watch anything else if I followed every single episode. Even when I do have them on unless it’s a major storyline concluding it is just background noise for me.
 
Unless it’s in a nursing home I’m not sure any of the soaps will be considered event television anymore

As you'd imagine, Eurovision had very little time shifted viewing. It was the most watched programme in terms of live viewing; 6.180m against BGT's 5.022m.
 
That is GREAT for Eurovision.

I am not too sure on Gentleman Jack yet. I have watched both episodes but it hasn’t quite clicked for me.
 
It really is amazing how much Eurovision holds up every year, of course, it's nowhere near as much as it was back in the days but nothing does now. The cost to the BBC per year is less than ONE episode of Casualty!
 
Imagine what would happen if we actually sent a half decent song and managed to ACTUALLY COMPETE
 
Yes those figures for Eurovision are great, particularly as it went head to head with BGT
 
Oh we quite like it. Well it's alright. Russell T Davies productions all have some sincere moments that really grate on me.

There was a particularly horrible Russell Tovey speech in the first episode. I quite enjoy it for the most part, it is equal parts interesting and ridiculous. Not sure it is really a BBC1 programme so not surprised it hasn't done too well.

Also lovely Viktor and Tovey's vindictive ex. :horny:

It would be #21 with 3.262m.

I watched the first two back to back at the weekend and enjoyed it, but cant help but think that they must be disappointed with those figures.
