Aww i loved Exeter especially in Summer being able to hop on a train and be in Dawlish or Exmouth in half an hour. Lovely walks down the estuary near Topsham or a day trip to Dartmoor
 
If I could afford it, I'd move to Brighton. It's the only place I've ever been where I thought "I could proper live here". Even in Canada, I never thought that, it was just cool to visit and hang out for a while.

If I ever get the opportunity, I will return and spend the rest of my life there (in Hove obviously).

My sister lived in Barca. She moved when she had her daughter because she said it was the most polluted place she'd ever lived. And she was in London for 6 years.

Likewise I have a friend from Barcelona and she moved back there after having a baby as she needed outside help - her British husband’s parents weren’t able to assist and luckily he’s a teacher so was able to easily get a job teaching the children of Premiership footballers in their International school. She still misses London and constantly complains about the lack of spicy food available there.

My bf and I have a big soft spot for Italy (last year alone, we were in Milan, Bologna, Napes / Amalfi / Catania, Sicily), and he often talks about moving there eventually, but Milan is the only city I could feasibly imagine having a career and an urban life.
 
wish I'd known about Bologna as a student, seemed like a fun place for the young ones
 
Bologna is lovely. I had to go for a meeting last year and it was such a nice little surprise.
 
Me and Mrs Bev have talked about living somewhere else - or at the very least spending periods abroad and keeping Britain as our base. We were planning to do that this summer, so I could finish writing a different book, but its obvs not happening now.

I'm not really a fan of CHEEEEEYNA. I don't mind Hong Kong, but living there for a few months was mind-numbing expat hell.

I was in Brighton earlier this month. My friend moved there with his boyfriend a couple of months ago. It was lovely and chilled out walking around there in the daytime, near the beachfront. If I moved back I'd have to move there.
 
I'm with Ag. I'd totally want to live in Hove rather than Brighton itself.

Mr M's career has better take us places. I'm ready for something different again
 
I love Manchester, but I'm also a bit sick of it. The city centre is always busy because of the effort to repopulate it with actual residents, and the weekends are a nightmare with people pouring in from the suburbs and county, and hen dos from other cities. I need an adventure.
 
incidentally Mr M's job could take us to Italy, which would be perfect, or possibly the UK but I would have no idea where and if I'd be up for it. London is not on the list though. Scotland I wouldn't mind

I *almost* said Montreal but then realized how cold it gets. It's wonderful in the summer

I've never been to Portsmouth but have family there. I did quite like teaching in Southampton last summer. Loads of parks and open space. But that might have been due to the 20+ temperatures.

Barcelona would be an ace place to live, if we didn't have Ron Jr it would be our next stop, still might be, we're letting him see this school out before we make another jump.
 
Valencia is also a good shout in Spain, Madrid for me is just a bit too much of a big city, and living in Spain without beach seems pointless.
 
My dad saw your post and he says Glasgow. Scotland is his favorite English-speaking country.
 
I love Edinburgh and Liverpool but I know visiting is different than living somewhere (obviously).

Liverpool is underrated and lovely.
