Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 12: Albania, Belgium & Spain

5th: Miki - La Venda (126pts)

gallery-19:10.jpg

This one genuinely does feel like it was a bit hard done by in the actual Contest last year. For once the Spanish flashed a bit of cash to make their entry feel like a bit of an EVENT, he was hot and didn't even attempt to pick up a guitar, and the whole thing felt legitimately but non-cynically on-brand.

Performing last is a bit of a poisoned chalice, but ONE measly point from the juries was very very 'arsh indeed. Curiously, that sole point came from Russia, who this year attempted to send a song called Unos Dos Tres. Are we in for some kind of Soviet Latin revival, because if so I am 100% here for it.

Maybe a bit too eager to please, but I'll take that over essentially sticking a giant middle finger up to the fanbase any day of the week. Also, obvious but it has to be noted - BICEPS.

1 x 12 (Kevin)
1 x 1 (Suomi)

Oh I LOVE La venda to bits - it got my 10 and actually ended up my most played entry of last year's contest (and second most played song last year, behind Oscar Enestad - I Love It) :D Just three minutes of THRILLING NON-STOP PARTY :disco:

What happens when we've done every country (apart from kill ourselves obviously)?
We do need to fit in Moopyvision 2020 at some point, but that should only take about three weeks. Maybe more if people need time to get used to the songs.

I thought La Venda was a nailed on top 10. Sadly the jurors were saving all of their points to spunk them at a Macedonian woman who had clearly been so methodical in sucking them all off that she wore her kneecaps down to dust.

Such a bouncing bag of Spanish fun and what bouncing Spanish fun you could have with dear Miki :horny:

One of the hottest of the decade AND a good song. The Spanish were royally fucked over and not for the first time. Obviously they've sent utter dreck, but when they bother to turn up it often does as bad as the crud!

4th: Ruth Lorenzo - Dancing In The Rain (143pts)

Eurovision-final.jpg

From the moment she battled her way into the UK X Factor live rounds, I DREAMED that one day Ruth Lorenzo would make her way to Eurovision. So you can imagine my delight when she not only did it, but gave Spain a rare top ten finish in the process. Not that it appears to have endeared her to SOME ungrateful locals, but we'll draw a veil over that for now. :side-eye:

In retrospect, it is a bit of a shame that she didn't hold out for a stronger song. She's obviously got pipes for days, but if I ever feel the need for a blast of Lorenzo mic-flinging in my life, I always gravitate towards her performance of Purple Rain, on which this was surely almost entirely modelled, right down to the weather references.

Still, she came, she faghagged with Conchita, she (kinda) conquered. At the time she promised to come back in 3 years and win. It's been double that now and she's had no joy, but if reality television has taught us anything, it's to never count out Ruth Lorenzo.

6 x 10 (VoR, sewerynsven, Kalabaliken, Win_The_Game, Ag, Kevin7)
1 x 2 (David_5000)

I'm still mildly agog Mincing In The Rain managed to make it top ten. The thing's barely got a hook and she looked like a COMPLETE MENTALIST by the end!

OMG - imagine if Ruth Lorenzo had come back with CONTIGO :disco:
Fucking Hell, she'd have put the windows through on the last chorus.

I do think she'll find her way back eventually, just as soon as she chews through the restraints and knocks Alla unconscious long enough to knot some blankets together to fling herself to safety. She's got a great voice and a degree of name recognition, and she doesn't seem like she'd be opposed to a banger.

3rd: Barei - Say Yay! (160pts)

Ugh, you're on your own with this one Moopy, for I found this song to be the absolute definition of an anti-grower. I think it's the exclamation point - if ever there was a red flag for forced joie de vivre, it's a song title with an exclamation point in the hands of anybody other than Shania Twain. No I won't bloody 'Say Yay!' Barei, you patronising bint, I'm 34 years old - AND SO ARE YOU!

I guess it was well produced and fairly modern, but to be honest I can totally understand why it passed the viewers by. When you've got Poli Genova and Austrian Zoë bringing the pop goods, why would anyone spare a vote for this warmed over fare?

Even knowing it's a gimmick, the fall really reads as an amateur moment, too. Terrible idea, executed either badly or too well. She should've had a banana skin onstage or something so it at least read as an actual joke.

4 x 12 (Ill Advised, Jacques, Win The Game, Suomi)
1 x 2 (dmlaw)

Dancing In The Rain was six years after X Factor, so six years after that for the maths to tie in, she was due back in 2020. Wisely she turned down representing Ireland with whatever Kelly Clarkson 2005 demo they slouched in with, so THAT MEANS, Ruth Lorenzo will be flying the flag for someone, anyone who'll have her, in 2021. I can't wait :disco:

This really shouldn't be higher than Ruth. Have a word, moopy!

Fingers crossed it's Lithuania :disco:

:D at Say Yay! getting @Suomi's 12

But yes, a bit too FORCED FUN all round and all in all just makes me angry that we didn't get Ace Wilder - Don't Worry that year, if we wanted to have a 34 year old going on 20 do a dance banger with weird knock-kneed choreo get mown down by Poli.

I remember thinking Barei was quite FIT when I was watching the final pissed. I wasn't as enthusiastic when I watched it again sober.

It starts incredibly dull but to be fair she properly throws herself into it and gives one of the best vocals that year by the end. As pointed out the fact it seemed to be modelled almost ENTIRELY on that one X Factor performance - six years later no less! - was a genius move from people who knew exactly what to do with their singer.

Although, much as I like it, you knew she could do SO much bigger and better
