If the rate of increase is doubling every 3 days that would take us to 1k deaths a day by Saturday if we have not hit the peak (which I don’t think we have).

I saw something yesterday that although we're increasing, the RATE OF INCREASE has actually slowed. So rather than doubling every two days like we were a fortnight ago, it's doubling every three days now (or something).

If you look at the number of cases (for what that's worth) it's increasing steeply but close to linearly as opposed to exponentially

18 days of isolation and counting. We just had a new high with 864 deaths in 24 hours. The peak is expected for next week. I just found out a neighbor died and I'm very sad, she was such a great woman, and only around 50.

That's why I'm saying you're not even close to the peak; you are a few more millions in UK, so 500 seems "low". I hope I'm totally wrong. Take care.

I am so sorry darling, this is really awful. It’s bad enough looking at the figures but when it is touching you personally it is truly heartbreaking. Stay safe.xx
 
Just found out an acquaintance and his wife are both in hospital with it :( They're both in their 60s. Fingers crossed...
 
In Spain, the infection rate is falling, though, and consistently, no? It'll need the infection rate to fall before the death rate does...
 
to go from 190 to 380 to 560 deaths in the span of 48 hours is shocking. I don't think even Italy increased that quickly when it started getting awful there. I'm sure we'll have one of the biggest death counts (maybe the biggest?) in Europe when said and done. Great job with your response, everybody's m8 Boris!

they're flattening the curve, aren't they? i think they just reacted swiftly and adequately and now new reported cases have been gradually dropping. and bear in mind the population is under 9 million.

  • An “extraordinary situation” has been declared, resulting in a ban on all private and public events and closing bars, restaurants, sports and cultural spaces; only businesses providing essential goods remain open. Schools are closed nationwide. The measures are in force until April 19.

My uncle lost a good friend yesterday apparently and his wife is also critical. Dad told me and said “Oh but he was 85 so they’re taking it well”.

Yes, infection rate went down last Saturday for the first time, which is good news. Death rate should follow next week, if everything goes according to plan.
 
Meanwhile in China, the official numbers are 5 or 6 daily deaths for the last 2 weeks. :rolleyes: Obviously nobody can believe that, but I saw this everywhere and I think it can't be real either, it's just TOO MUCH. So I guess somewhere in the middle, god knows.

He was a DJ and quizmaster around London. I went to his birthday quiz just 3 weeks ago. Fucking hell. And younger than my parents. Awful.
 
I'm not sure that growth of our numbers is quite as fast as the numbers alone suggest. The 180 was from Sunday and the news suggests that, because of the way hospitals report, the Saturday and Sunday figures are likely to be slightly low with the extra added into Monday and Tuesday figures. Remember that we were getting 200+ towards then end of last week and it suggests that, whilst we are still going up it's less exponential than the last three days figures suggest.
 
I can't quite believe I'm looking on the bright side of more than 500 deaths and no end in sight. :(
 
The best way to look at the increase in death figures is to see where we were this time last week. If the daily increase becomes consistently than the same day last week, then we're over the worst. Until then it's either still getting worse, or flatlining.

Constantly worried about my parents in case I bring anything home - 60s really doesn't seem to be an age where people survive this thing too easily... without looking at the numbers maybe 50/50? Not the death sentence of the 80s but still not good.
Only going out when we need shopping and being as careful as possible, disinfecting everything on return etc but fact of the matter is it's IMPOSSIBLE to stay 2m away from everyone in the supermarket. You just need one flank attack (i.e. one person coming from each end of the aisle towards you) and your only choice is to pass close by one of them. This happens constantly. No one coughing or sneezing but of course that's of little comfort
 
Former work colleagues wife was admitted late Thursday night, they put her on a ventilator and told him she's got 36 hours before they take her off it but she's still on it tonight. No improvement but no deterioration so I guess that's good news.

I barely knew him really but he was obviously a proper decent bloke with tons of friends and devoted to his family. There's an absolute outpouring of tributes on his Facebook page now. So sad.
