biden is the presumptive nominee and has been since the usa began its race to the verge of ruin. for most of those couple of weeks, he was mia. ostensibly trying to figure out this thing called the internet and reportedly courting sponsors.

is it working? well, 35 deaths yesterday, up from 5 on Saturday. so no, not at all. fucking morons.
 
interestingly they seem to be roughly following the same trajectory as us who have lots of measures in place. so who knows...
 
and apparently they're even one of the countries with the least icu's per capita in europe...

i can't tell. on one hand it might be useful to have an outlier (i guess japan is the same but they are difference culturally which might obfuscate things) to everyone else's strategy but on the other it feels so risky still.

To be honest, I’m more convinced that we’re doing the right thing.

Most of the people are still staying home though, and a lot of kids aren’t going to school. Everything is half empty and people in general trust and obey the state and its institution, therefore it’s not out of control.

so most people (who can afford to) are voluntarily socially distancing?
 
businesses are starting to fail here. i saw movers emptying a shop across the street from me today and one of the local free city magazines announced it's closing today.

and perhaps more importantly the people who rent the space where the bar is are considering closing up shop too.

We’re not the US, most people can afford being sick or stay off work, especially with the government paying for most of it now. The biggest reason why schools aren’t closing is because they don’t want the parents that need to work to be forced to stay home with their kids, or even worse let their grandparents babysit them.

yes, i know that, i thought it was an important distinction cause there are places where you don't really have a choice if you have to pay your bills.

anyway, turkey has now passed 10 thousand reported cases and 100 deaths in what seems like no time at all. i don't know why i'm taking it so personally. maybe it's the neighbourhood thing, maybe it's my two turkish exes, maybe it's that wretched president of theirs.
 
Obviously, most of those who are deemed the most crucial right now (the nurses and school teachers and shop assistants and bus drivers etc are some of the least paid groups. Hopefully this will change in the future.

apparently going so well here that they're considering a gradual re-opening after Easter. fingers crossed that cinemas will open first

Have we noticed that now that Amazon is prioritising Corona products, they've started delaying everything else? I've just been given a Prime delivery date of 28th April for a record- LOL!

Thing is, I have no issue with them prioritising those in need, but don't keep taking my Amazon Prime subscription when you're taking a month to get things to me, you thieving cunts.
 
Not quite. I ordered a thermometer just in case weeks ago (since our company originally said to start self isolating if you have a temperature over 38.7) and it’s still delayed until mid April.
 
Yeah, but that's an out of stock issue rather than them just not delivering...
 
My garden centre prophecy is on the news. That makes me sadder than a lot of news.

Ugh indeed. They are impossible to find here, some people are wearing some homemade ones that look like anything but a mask, and probably don't protect them at all.

So my next door but 1 neighbour passed away yesterday alone in hospital. :(
My kids don't really know how to process it as although he wasn't a friend or family, he was someone who they saw daily and said hello to.
