The thing is, there's not going to ever be a clear "it's all fine now" moment. Any relaxation will be graduated and will carry with it its own risks.
 
Schools going back first is actually a sensible approach in practical terms but the fallout from a school kid dying because "the government said it was OK to go back" would be understandably brutal.

Most people are at home anyway, the problem is going to be the public transport. They're giving away millions of masks, but I don't know if that's gonna be enough, we'll see.

I feel so bad because I enjoyed her Melody Maker years and her first book but she's either become a dreadful cunt or she successfully suckered me for a bit, the latter being a tad more embarrassing. But anyone shilling for the Times can fuck off in any event.

Did China not wait until they had little to no cases before lockdown was over? I don’t even know why I am saying that as cases are starting to jump there again. You are right as it is all such unknown territory.

I'd ignore anything coming out of China to be honest. The measures taken by EU countries would be a much better measure of what's to come.

It is dropping your children off at school. I drive my son to school so have no problem with social distancing but the majority don’t. Children would need to social distance in class as well as during breaks and walking from class to class. It all sounds pretty impossible.
 
Have France loosened any of the restrictions? I would assume as Spain and Italy have now dropped some restrictions you may well be back to a state of normality within the next few weeks @Alla , unless cases start jumping again. Spain and Italy now seem to be moving in a different trajectory.
 
I see France are at least saying when things will start opening again. Knowing that date gives you something to look forward to.

Not really. They will re-evaluate again in May.

Just like our lockdown was re-evaluated after the stated three weeks.

Precisely. They are tentatively talking about reopening schools but not much else.

If things continue to plateau only restrictions on construction workers etc will be lifted in May. Nothing else. Normality is a long way off for anyone.

I think it's more of a case of knowing until when things won't be opening at this point. Lockdown until May 11th and depending how things go by then we'll know more. No festivals or cultural events before mid-July, at least.
 
Not to be miss doom and gloom but I don’t expect any large scale events/festivals/gigs or international travel for another year.
 
I don't expect much from this year either to be honest, at least nothing much before September. Our borders are indefinitely closed anyway!

The way I'm trying to look at it is that he gave us an extra 28 days. We've already done 28-30 depending on whether you started the night they shut bars & restaurants or the following Tuesday. So we are already halfway there. Do you live alone, DC? Occasionally my bf and I annoy each other, but generally I think being together makes it a lot more bearable.
 
I was hoping Macron would mention that Gay Pride would not be cancelled, just remixed for 2020.

There is the hope though, that if the Spanish lockdown does get extended to a similar date, they might at least alter it to make it mirror the UK lockdown, where people can go out for exercise. Or even to mirror the French lockdown where you're allowed out for exercise before and after certain points of the day.

Yeah, halfway there seems about right. I'm live on my own. I think I'm quite grateful for that actually, just imagining being locked-down with the last queen I went out with makes me shudder! I don't think there are many people I could spend two months inside with. I still actually discussed the idea with a very good friend of mine, but I still go to work once or twice a week and didn't want to be risk factor for him.
 
How are people feeling about things getting back to normal? I will be incredibly relieved in some ways but must say I am going to be super cautious.
 
I have anxiety about commuting but if it’s during the summer, I’ll probably ditch the bus/tram and cycle to avoid the crowds

Yeah, I think I'll be very cautious as well. Which in a sense isn't the normal normal.
 
The lease for my Italian apartment ends at the start of September so I'm just living in hope that I can get over for part of the summer.
 
My daughter got an email to say her driving test has been rescheduled to May 21st so maybe they do expect things to get back to normal next month. As a government body they may well be IN THE KNOW.
