Katy Perry - Daisies

Considering how liberally the word legend is banded around, and how much Katy has contributed to music these past 12 years, and how much she continues to be at least part of the conversation, I think she QUALIFIES for LEGEND STATUS tbh.

Have we discussed the track Grateful/Smile which leaked this week? It will be on the album/might be the next single after Daisies. Features Diddy, is as straightforwardly summery/brassy pop as it gets. It's really just one hook repeating a few times but it's pretty good. Sounds very Puthy.

The Monsters & Strangerz ARE one of the best production teams around so I have a slight hope (Sexercize by Kylie anyone?)

Charlie Puth has written a couple of decent bops so he's also a good asset for an album.

Of fucking COURSE she's going with NRO on the deluxe and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets to shove 365, Small Talk and that non-starter Never Worn White (I'm wearing black to your funeral) buzz single along too.

Never Worn White is on the main tracklist :D Harleys will be a bonus with NRO but no word on Small Talk

What IS a bonus track these days ? Isn’t it either on streaming or not? For certain territories only? Physical release only?

Puth was behind the shitty Small Talk wasn't he? He should STAY AWAY.

Everything after Never Really Over has been varying shades of bad. Is Never Worn White really on the album? Ugh.

I think with certain singers like Selena Gomez, their record companies end up doing it so it can bump up their parent album streaming numbers? It's some way fo cheating and hyping your album, I thought it was common practice. "three billion album streams!" Yes hun but some songs in there were released 3 years ago :side-eye:

But if that's the case then Ellie Goulding would have tagged River and Sixteen in her forthcoming album.

Quite frankly I’m disgusted that Queen Louise’s musical output is being discussed in the same breath as Katy Perry

when will Lou catch a break? :(

I'm no Katy Perry obsessive, but Paula Abdul had two properly successful hit album campaigns. Cyndi Lauper had one and a half. I think the four Katy had qualifies her as a bit more of a major player.

She's also surely a much bigger hitter globally. Paula was very much an American phenomenon.

If we are talking purely chart stats, yes Katy probably surpassed both globally with her three hit albums. In terms of overall impact, I don’t think Paula is such an unfair comparison... she had six #1s in America but ultimately did not survive the musical shift in the mid-late 90s. There is also the American Idol connection. I think Cyndi is more of a cultural icon than Paula or Katy than a comparable chart force. I don’t see Katy contributing a “Time after Time” to the American songbook either.

She will be dressed as a clown on the album cover.

I want to believe it won't be shot in this outfit she bought from the costume store for sixty bucks but you know it will be

are you implying she's the new Cher then

Oh come on gays. Paula Abdul had about three international hit singles.

Including a couple of features Katy must’ve had about 15 over ten years and four albums. I think it’s pushing the boat to use that one!

Paula was far more than a LOCAL STAR, albeit that the US was her biggest market. Those first two albums did the business pretty much everywhere.

Not at all unexpected. It's a nice enough tune and I've realised I really quite enjoy her voice (STUDIO RECORDED FORM ONLY) :D

Never Really Over :disco: is the outlier of all this recent stuff so the days of a megahit do seem behind her.

This is AMAZING

she sounds incredible and the production is so warm and immaculate.

How can Never Really Over be hated? From the second bridge through the chorus and then post chorus it`s just :disco:

Anyway this one is good. Has a bit of a similar vibe to NRO. As far as a while album on those lines go I think that would be thoroughly enjoyable, if not going to produce any hits.

the verses are generic and utterly non-descript, the bridge is perry at her most grating and the chorus is just so damned flat.

= piss poor.

So wrong! Especially her money note 'I guess it`s never really OV-ERRRRRRRR-ERRRRRRRH` is so shrill it gets me excited :disco:

#1 on iTunes. I know that means fuck all these days, but still a little surprising?
